I would guess that that is your fuel line and reconnecting it would be a good idea as leaking fuel and motorbike engines dont mix that well and normally result in your bike going up in flames

Hi, I have a 13.5hp Briggs & Stratton motor which starts and will only run on choke slow rpms and mild smoke.

check the point where the fuel hose goes to the fuel tank
there is very fine filter in the hose that could be blocked preventing full fuel flow
only running on choke indicates insufficient fuel flow

What would cause a gasoline odor when I'm driving? No visible leaks and not overfilling the tank.

Could be anything. Bad gas cap, evaporation canister bad, bad hose, engine running rich etc. No way to give you an accurate diagnosis simply too many possibilities.

Why is gas leaking out my Evap fresh air hose every time i try to put gas in my car and start it

I suspect you are OVERFILLING your tank...

There should be a direct connection from your canister to the top of the fill tube. It is intended to safely draw out gas fumes.

even if you don't OVERFILL... gasoline can expand (coming from the cold ground... into a nice warm car) enough to repeat the symptoms you have depicted.

Try putting in less gas...

Things will most probably resolve themselves... otherwise you might need a new canister.

Be safe... DO NOT OVERFILL.

Yamaha 1978 750 Special Fuel Leaking Problem

These type of fuel shut offs do not have a manual off position. They are automatically operated by engine vaccuum when working properly. They have malfunctioned and allowed fuel to overflow into the airfilter box(the black box) untill repair time use a long piece of hose to connect the large outlet of each shutoff to eachother or plug the end of two short pieces. The carbs have a drain screw on the very bottom of each facing left , right or straight down. you could also drain the carbs however once the fuel supply is cut to them they should not leak any further. Leave the carb fuel hoses from the tank disconnected. You should drain the tank by siphon and the residual gas that is already in the air box can be drained from the hose on the bottom of the box. This is a mess but once you get all this drained it should stop leaking

Carburator leaks gas when cycle is started or running from what looks like vent hose?

Sounds to me like your float valve is obstructed by some debris. This is causing it to stay open and leak fuel. Better it leaks to your vent hose than it leaks in your engine and contaminates your oil.

You need a proper carb cleaning. Not some run in the gas tank sh*t. If the tank wasn't full when parked, chances are there is rust in the fuel system to get this out you need to disassemble the carburetor and thoroughly clean it.

Try not to ride the bike til you do this. It's a fire hazard.

The car seems to have an obstruction in the gas line, won't take gasoline easily from the punp. Turns pump off continuosly.

Dan the reason it takes it from a gas can is there is no pressure building up in the line as you would have from a gas tank. As you fill the tanks the air inside of the tank has to go out as the tank fills up. I would suggest checking the fill hose thats connected to the gas tanks and the spout inlet where you put the hose to fill the tanks and check for kinks in the hose. Second there should be a vent hose from the tanks that connects to the spout also check it for kinks or blockage this would prevent air from escaping from the tank causing the gas pump to cut off due to the rapid filling of the tank without the air being able to escape. Hope this helps

Will start but only run less than a minute

If it starts on choke, runs a short period after the choke is pushed in it is a fuel starvation issue, remove the fuel hose in the tank and replace the filter on the end, at the same time check the condition of the hose up to the carb, any signs of splits or cracks and the hose will need replacement.

Press washer starts an runs for 5 min then shuts down/ restarts in a few min then shuts down again

It sounds like could be one of the problems listed below or a combination of those things.

1) The exhaust is partially blocked. Check the screen covering exhaust port for carbon and dirt build-up. The high-speed exhaust air must pass freely.

2) Gas is not flowing freely to carburetor > under gas tank, find the rubber hose connected to carburetor. Pull off rubber hose and make sure gas flows freely. You can use this hose to drain gas tank of old gas, and then put in new gas.

3) Carburetor is partially gummed up and engine cuts off when gas flow slows down. Check small engine repair shop or auto parts store for gum out, and don't store engine with gasoline in the tank. Or put additive in gas when storing machine.

4) The choke is letting in too much gas or not enough gas. Try different adjustments. The choke-lever on our power washer got so bad that we could not set throttle at full open or the machine would die. We still use the machine at 2/3 throttle.

5) Dirty air filter that won't let engine breath enough air to keep up with combustion. Take off air filter and see if problem persists.

6) The spark coil is going bad?? Change spark plug to see if problem persists. Is spark plug wire pushed all the way on the spark plug?

Gas leak

It is called gas tank filler hose. You usually can purchase that rubber hose section seperately at an auto parts store or dealer. Make sure to change clamps also.
