The three yellow wires can be crossed and the rectifier will still work correctly. They seem to be getting hot is this normal.

It shouldn't matter. AC is not polarized; that's the job of the rectifier block.

You are discussing a bridge rectifier, the + connector is directly opposite the negative connector, the remaining two connection points are the AC side of the rectifier + AC

If I run the generator for several hours it will die do to low charge on battery

Check the battery voltage before you start it at the generator. IE 12V start the generator and measure again. It should be around 13.8V if it does not rise, go to the charge rectifier in the genset and make sure you have AC going onto it. (Assuming you have the gen battery charge option) If you don't have ACV you can suspect the B stator windings, if you do have AC. Check the rectifier DC output 13.8V if present check wiring and fuses, if not present change the rectifier, note where the wires go ! The battery is dying because the ignition system of the gen is pulling it down and it is not charging.

How can I make my 15.5 h.p.kohler charge again

Check the rectifier to make sure you have AC power on the AC terminal, if you do stator windings are good, if not stator is bad.
If you have AC then check the DC wires on the rectifier, if you do not have battery voltage, change rectifier, if you do suspect wiring / fuses

I have a cb 400 Project Big One. one of the three yelow wires on the regualtor rectifier socket has some burns. Is it the reason why my RR keeps failing? or is it just symptom of a biger problem? thnks

If the wires are burnt then the reg/rectifier is junk. It may test within tolerance with a multimeter but it isn't any good once they burn. Replace it with a known good one.

First check all the conections on and around the regulator rectifier, also alternator, disconect the rectifier, carefully observe the unit for corrosion, and visible damage to the unit like burning to the rear bakalite construction, and the three yellow wires on the unit, the three yellow wires come from the alternator, converting the ac voltage to dc charging the battery via red wire, check the alternator output on the three yellows with the engine running they should all be around the same voltage,

It's not charging the battery

FIRST THING I WOUULD LOOK FOR ON THIS IS BURNING TO THE REAR OF THE REGULATOR RECTIFIER,NORMALY FAIL WHEN BIKE IS USED WITH DISCHARGED BATTERY, ONLY PROBLEM IS IN SOME CASES WHEN THE BIKE IS USED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WITH A FAULTY RECTIFIER, THEN THE GENERATOR ALSO GOES, YOU CAN DO A TEST WITH A MUTIMETER CHECK THAT THE THREE YELOW WIRES FROM THE AC GENERATOR ALL HAVE CONTINUITY, THAT IS BETWEEN THEM WHILE THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING WITH THE KEY TURNED OFF

Hoo.cwiring diagram for 93 honda cbr900rr for the rectifier

THIS DEPENDS ON WHETHER YOUR RECTIFIER HAS 5/ OR 7 WIRES, SIMPLE ENOUGH THOUGH , YOU WILL SEE THREE YELLOW WIRES THESE WILL COME FROM THE AC SIDE OF THE GENERATOR ON THE ENGINE TO THE RECTIFIER, IT IS HERE THE AC, ALTERNATING CURRENT IS CHANGED TO DIRECT CURRENT DC IS USED FOR STARTING THE BIKE, AND PROVIDING POWER FOR LIGHTS ETC, YOU WILL THEN FIND 1 OR 2 GREENS, GREEN IS THE BIKES EARTH ON OLDER HONDAS, SO PUT THESE WIRES TO A GOOD EARTHING POINT ON THE BIKE OR WIRE INTO THE LOOM , YOU WILL TEN FIND 1 OR 2 REDS, AS RED IS THE DC OUTPUT FROM THE RECTIFIER YOU WILL NEED TO CONNECT THIS TO THE POSOTIVE+SIDE OF THE BATTERY

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If somehow, the CDI could be opened up, then component level repair maybe tried. There would be 2 final transistors that actually do the switching; 1 for each coil. Offhand, it would appear that 1 of those 2 is faulty. Otherwise, replacement is the only option.

Incidentally, in some versions, a fault in the tachometer could also cause one of the CDI's output to fail.

Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Wiring system on GSXR400 gk71b

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The yellow wires could be interchange. It does not matter which yellow goes to which connector terminal as it is a 3 phase alternator. The voltage regulator has a built-in diode pack that would convert all 3 incoming ACV to a single charging DCV.

It would be normal for them to heat up especially when charging condition. However, on older machines, this is more caused by corroded, tarnished or loose contacts. It would be to your advantage to clean and tighten these connections/connectors.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
