Skipping 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster 883

2006 Harley Davidson Sportster skips/hesitation when you first give it gas. Pulled air cleaner off while running to check gas stream, when I gave it gas fire came out of the carb right behind the carb slide. Any suggestions on how to fix?

Also once the engine is good and warm, both jugs feel the same temp wise but the exhaust off of the front jug is cool and the exhaust off the rear jug is warm.

SOURCE: 2007 harley davidson xl sportster 883 speedometer

If you're lucky it might be the speed sensor located in the gearbox casing. This is a hall effect device and is magnetic and so can pick up metal fragments from the inside of the gearbox. I have a 2001 Sportster and the Sensor is located on the top of the gearbox casing, just below the starter. I'd expect it to be in a similar position on a later bike such as yours, but I can't be sure. Once you've located it, take it out (can be a bit fiddly) and make sure that its clear of any debris. If not the sensor, you're probably going to need to substitute in a working speedo. Be careful because a pre-2004 speedo is electronic, but is not compatible with 2007 bike. Best of luck!

Oil in air cleaner on a harley davidson 2006 883 sportster

Hi Georgianna, oil leaking from your air cleaner is caused by oil carryover from the engine. For what ever reason the breather system is not seperating enough oil mist and air from the piston downstroke. There are cheap and quick easy fixes and there are more exspensive ones. Start by trying the following:
1. Run your oil level half way between the add and full mark when hot.
2. Run oil breather lines from head into a TEE fitting below carb/induction module then a single line into a mini filter under frame.
3. Purchase Arlen Ness Super Sucker.
4. Replace umbrella valves and realign oil pump
5. Upgrade oil pump and cam plate
Good luck and have nice day.

2004 harley sportster 883 doesnt idle the way it should. It has a slight hesitation. Is there a way to adjust the carb. By sound. If so can you tell me how?

if u changed the pipes or the air breather then u will have a hesitation .you"ll need to adjust the air and gas mixture .my advice bring it to a harley mechanic and let them do it .it will cost about 20 bucks but is well worth the hastle especially if never done it before

I want to remove the baffels from stock 06 Sportster mufflers

not a good idea unless you upgrade the air cleaner to a high flow or screaming is tuned to run with restricted pipes..if you change one you need to change the other..with the 06 you could also need a download or fuel management system..

Remove the carb soak in carb cleaner, **** out small bleed holes with a wire from a wire brush etc. One of the passageways is still clogged, or the float is sticking.

2004 883 sportster skipping when off the gas

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. When you're "on the gas", the manifold vacuum is low and therefore won't **** air from the outside. But, when you "let off the gas", the manifold vacuum goes way high and if you have a leak, air will be sucked from the outside causing one or both cylinders to run lean and misfire.

I'd replace the intake manifold seals at the heads and the seal at the carb. while you're there, check the vacuum hose that goes up to the VOES switch and to the backside of the fuel petcock. Good Luck.
