You cannot just remove the spring alone..if you want to replace it you have to do it as a whole set...there are two bolts connecting the shocks at top and bottom respectively..after replacing it configure both the shocks to the same level...

How do I change shock spring on a 2004 cr250

Remove your seat, and subframe from the bike, followed by the shock. The shock has a bolt at the top and bottom holding it in place. Remove the shock bolts and remove the shock.
The shock has two locking rings at teh top of the spring. You need to spin the two apart, which you will normally need a hammer and punch to do to get them seperated. Spin the top ring anti closkwise, to loosen it off as much as possible. Then loosen off the second ring and the spring will be free floating.

Loosen off the circlip holding the spring at the bottom of the spring. Once this is off, slip the spring over the shock housing and you are done. Assembly is the reverse process, but be sure to check your sag on teh rear shock once you have re-installed a spring.

Are struts on the front or back of this car?

The struts model (MacPherson Strut),are both in front and back of this car.
2000 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Rear, Driver Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly. $72
2000 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Rear, Passenger Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly $68
1996 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Front, Driver Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly $67
1996 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Front, Passenger Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly $63
Of course this is only the cartridge, you have to transfer the spring, and the top mount of the existing strut. You need a pair of coil spring compressor to do the job. The basic procedure to replace a strut is:
Remove the top nuts that secure the strut assembly to the frame mount inside the engine compartment. Do not remove the center nut.
Mark the lower strut mounting location on the hub for installation reference. The alignment will be close if the new strut is installed in the same position.
Remove the bolts that hold the strut assembly to the hub.
Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
Mark the top mount for installation reference. Using a side mounted spring compressor, compress the spring and remove the top nut and retaining washer. Pull strut assembly out from the bottom of spring.
Slide the new strut assembly up into the spring and reposition the top mount onto the spring in the same position that it was removed. Install the retaining washer and top nut.
Tighten the top nut to the manufacturer's specifications and carefully remove the spring compressor.
Place the strut assembly back into the vehicle.

How to cange front shocks.?

Raise and support the car safely and remove the front wheels. Undo the clip holding the brake line to the strut. Loosen the bolts holding the strut to the steering knuckle. Before removing them, remove the strut mount tower bolts under the hood. Then remove the other bolts, the entire strut assembly will slide out. You can either install a complete new strut and spring assembly (more expensive), or you can use a coil spring compressor to remove the spring from the old strut and install it on a new strut (less expensive but a lot more work, and you must have access to a spring compressor). Make sure when installing the spring that it is aligned correctly on the new strut. Also, you should replace the strut mounts with new ones. Be aware that a compressed spring is very dangerous, so be sure to follow the instructions for the spring compressor. Re-install the strut assembly. Make sure that the knuckle bolts and strut mount bolts are torqued to spec.

Do i need a spring compresser to be able to remove the front shocks

No you do not need to compress the springs to install new shocks. Todays shocks have a nitrogen charge; you'll note your new shocks will have a cable on them. Install the lower portion of the shock, next with the upper end aimed to where you want it to go, cut the cable holding the shock back. The nitrogen within the shock will cause it to slowly extend. If you cut the cable prior to install you'll need to compress the shock and wire in down in to place for install.
Please let me know if this helped,

Here is the procedure - you have to determine if it is within your skillset....

You will need spring compressors.

Cheapo ratcheting ones can be had for $25, or you can rent a pneumatic type.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

Wheel Upper shock mounting nuts. Discard the nuts. Nut and the stabilizer bar link. Discard the nut. Bolt, flag nut and the spring and shock absorber as an assembly. Discard the flag nut.
  3. Using a suitable spring compressor, compress the spring until the tension is released from the shock absorber.
  4. While holding the flats of the washer, remove the nut.
  5. Remove the shock absorber. Discard the nut, remove the washer, bushing and the upper mount.
  6. Remove the insulator.
  7. Remove the dust shield.

To install-
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. Observe the following torques:

Center nut: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) Lower shock bolt: 258 ft. lbs. (350 Nm). Sway bar link nut: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) Upper shock nuts: 20 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)

Rear shock replacement

Ummm do you have the spring compressor attached?
If not, put the bolts back in before someone gets hurt.

Those are strut style.
The proper way to remove them is to install the spring compressor, compress the springs a little, then remove the bolts. Then you will be able to remove the assembly, remove the shocks, put the new ones in, and reinstall.
With out the spring compressor, the spring can "jump out" and possibly cause serious injury. That is a 1,000+ pound spring.

Does not spin

for everyone except 'overseer'
the coupler can be purchased at a local parts store
'Kenmore motor/gearbox coupler' will get it for you, there is only on for all the models.
it is an easy fix
  • unplug washer
  • remove trim ends of control panel
  • remove phillips head screws from bottoms of control panel under where trim was
  • slide control panel forweard & up about 1 inch, then flip over the back of the control panel, do not dislodge the air hose
  • remove brass clips in rear corners of top with screwdriver, remember how they fit
  • unplug lid switch connector
  • lift body 1inch and slide forward to remove
  1. front center is the motor pump and gearbox
  2. do NOT disconnect hoses
  • remove spring clips holding pump on to motor shaft, note where they go for reinstall. there may be a lock screw in the top right clip.
  • swing pump to the left and use a string or bread bag tie to hold it out of the way.
  • remove spring clips holding motor to gearbox shaft, note where they go for reinstall. there may be a lock screw in the top right clip.
  • heave ******* motor, to separate the coupling
  • remove coupling halves from gearbox shaft and motor shaft and discard.
  • using a wooden dowel and hammer, on the center of the new coupling halves, drive them onto the motor and gearbox shafts, (dont hit the fingers, they break, note the new couplings have metal centres to solve ongoing problems.)
  • rotate gearbox coupling, 1 up 2 down
  • rotate motor coupling, 2 up 1 down
  • install rubber shock pad on gearbox coupling
  • install motor on shock pad
  • reinstall spring clips and lock screw if fitted (bottom first, rock the motor on rubber shock mount to ease spring clip installation)
  • rotate motor shaft to align with pump input
  • install pump on motor shaft
  • install spring clips and lock screw if fitted
reinstall body in reverse order

it takes less time to do the repair than it takes to type this
