Changed Spark plug. New Fuel filter. Starts great. Fresh gas. It's bogging down under use, even in light snow. Must keep choke on full or halfway during use. Just not picking and throwing like it used to (@ 25% of previous "power").

This is most likely a belt problem. Check the deck drive belt that runs from the mower deck to the engine it/s come loose and got stuck between the guides.

Try changing the its oil-seals. The problem lies there. It may be damaged or the oil-seals are now smaller than its is used to and it is because of the heat. The oil-seal are rounded things that are made of rubber.

From the rear of machine look at the top left of fuel tank for the fuel line.Where line comes out of tank see if it is pinched where it goes down between frame and tank, grab line and see if it moves freely. If that is OK loosen fuel cap after 10 minutes of run time to see if your vent hole in cap is working. These are 2 common problems for the L series mowers.

Hello, The first thing I would check is to check your spark plug and then make sure your gas cap is venting properly. If the vent gets clogged, the tank will actually get a vacuum built up and no gas will flow to the Carburetor. The next time the mower does this, loosen the gas cap enough to allow air to get in and then retighten. If it runs fine, it was clogged. You have to clean out the vent or get another cap. Make sure the fuel is mixed correctly. Too much oil in the mix will cause problems. Make sure you haven't left old fuel in it for a long period of time and gummed those jets up. Sometimes an engine just needs to run in order to clean the jets out. If this is the case, just replace the fuel, get it running and work it normal for a tank of fuel if you can. You should see improvement by then. If it still doesn't run correctly, you will have to adjust or clean the Carburetor. One thing to remember: If your engine has run fine in the past, you probably have a clogged Carburetor. If it hasn't ever ran right, you should adjust the high-speed jet. If you need to clean the Carburetor, you will probably need to remove, disassemble, soak, and use compressed air to blow out the jets in your carburetor. Pay close attention to how the carburetor is attached to the engine. Make a drawing if you need to or take some pictures. Remove the Carburetor from the engine. Remove the air filter, linkages, throttle/choke cables and fuel line. Remove the mounting bolts/nuts. You will need to disassemble the carburetor as far as possible and put it in some Carburetor cleaning solution. You can get this at any auto parts store. Do not place rubber parts in the solution. Allow it to soak in cleaner as directed, and then blow out the ports and jets with compressed air immediately after you take it out of the cleaning solution. Be careful not to get any spray back on your skin or in your eyes. Reinstall the Carburetor in the reverse order. Replace any worn or torn gaskets or o-rings as you assemble and reinstall it. If you need to adjust the high-speed mixture setting on your Carburetor, turning the screw out just 1/2 turn or so should do the trick. It is not so hard to adjust the Carburetor, however you do need a special tool that is very hard to get your hands on. They don't make many engines with plain screw heads on the jet screws anymore. The newer Carburetors are factory set lean so they can pass emission standards. If you have a local dealer, they should adjust the mixture for a couple of bucks. If you can adjust the screw, start the engine, allow it to warm up, and apply full throttle. Start backing off the screw just until the engine gets max RPM. That's it. You're done. Just a TIP: Always mix your fuel with an approved fuel stabilizer. Fuel begins to go bad after a few months and that's why many people have fuel problems in the spring.
My name is Dane and I am going to assist you in solving your problem.
I hope I've helped. Thank you! Dane

hi there
here is web site for manual and parts diagram
http://www.hammerwall.com/Download_Manual/12377/
have the valves been adjusted correctly ? or could have a tight valve clearance
and when gets warm holds valve open - looses power
your engine will be 31p777 intek ohv avs
run the piston to tdc on compression stroke , then turn piston past tdc & set piston is 1/4 inch down the bore on power stroke this eliminates decomprssor lift from the setting
intake should be 0.003 Thou
and exhaust 0.005t thou
then check the carburettor main jets and emulsion tube and pilot jets and air bleeds and progression ports for obstruction etc for restriction / blockage
check fuel flow from tank to carb , check that the fuel solenoid has got continual 12 volt supply
when switched on and does not go o/c cutting fuel supply to main jet
have a look let me know
cheers hope it helps
