Question about 2004 Honda VFR 800

Maybe a missfire bt not sure

I ave got a vfr and there is a problem with it it starts up on a trickle charger but when it does it kicks out loads of white soke then cuts out so i think it is ether the spark plugs witch i dont fink it is but i also fink it maybe the coils do you think it could be anything else before i start to buy parts could you email me at codarren1987@msn.com please

Hello coxdarren198,,,The problem with the VFR is most likely improperly synced starter valves...the wrong air/fuel mixture then causes the 02 sensor to react and so forth and so on. The factory settings are not right... if they are i have yet to see one.
Starting...lower RPM cruiseing and and throttle response will improve when the settings are correct.

    It takes a very good set of calibrated vacuum gauges to monitor Hg's and, that can handle 4 cylinders at once.. Reed valve adjustments and a lot of patience, because you do NOT want to accidently bend any linkage....Talk to your Honda dealer and see if they are aware of this condition with the VFR. The calibration/sync procedure has been removed from the shop manuals (for some reason) I have had best results useing the specs from the 2001 manual.
    The chances of a dealer balancing them in accordance with the 2001 manual are slim, thats why i think most of them are out of sync.
    Some technicians incorrectly refer to this procedure as "balancing the throttle bodies". The throttle bodies cannot be adjusted, but 3 of the 4 the starter valves (which form part of the throttle body) can, & the procedure is correctly-termed as "Synchronising the starter valves".
    A GOOD Honda-trained mechanic will know exactly what you are talking about.
    In the past Honda was saying change types of 02 sensors to trick the ECU. That advice has also changed, they now say to leave it as is. So as you can see, this continues to be a try and see theory for most.

Starter clicks


Hi Anonymous, battery voltage must be 12.5 volts or higher after you remove trickle charger. Battery terminals and cable connections must be clean and tight. Do a load test on battery. Good luck

The trickle charger is the problem and needs replacing? Not sure of the question. If you have the trickle charger built into the transfer switch then check there and internal ATS fuses. If you have the external or gen model, make sure any receptacle it is plugged into is working, as sometimes they are wored ona GFCI and they trip easy

Your battery is dying between rides. You probably need a new battery. Keep the new one on a trickle charger.

2006 Street Bob wont start even with a charger on. Only clicks.


Hi Tony, first when checking anything in the starter circuit you must make sure the battery connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends and has a 12.5 volt or better charge. It must not fall below 9 volts during the cranking procedure with a volt meter hooked up. If it does fall below 9 volts do a proper load test on the battery and replace if necessary. Second replace the starter relay cheap $6 and make sure it's well grounded and getting 11.5 volts or better to activate. Third remove the back cover of the solenoid and de-arc/refurbish the contact plate and shoes making sure they are tight. If it still chatters replace the solenoid. Good luck

Revo pride 2 year old scooter never used will not take charge


Well I hope I can be of Some help, If the batterys on a scooter are not charged daily after use they will deplete, in other words loss there power/charge.so each time you miss a charge the batteries will start lossing there life expectancy.that is why it Is very important to not miss a charge.When your batteries dont take a charge, that's basically saying you need new batterie. One way to make sure Your batteries need change and not your charger .... First trickle charge the batteries Second install the batteries back on the scooter Third plug in your charger it should kick on Good luck

You may have damaged the starter when the engine kicked back.

The ignition module may have been defective.....but change the crank pickup too.........more likely it is the cause of the problems.

Change the crank pickup at every tune up..........it has a high failure rate.

If your engine has 250km or 150K miles you may need a chain soon.

Can I use a regular trickle charger on a GS650 or is there a special bmw charger I need to buy. It's my buddy's bike and I hadn't started it for 23 weeks, now the battery is dead


You can buy a BMW charger if you want to spend some bucks that you don't need ;-)

The "brand name" BMW charger is the same as a C-TEK charger, they say it conditions the battery so you can leave it on charge permanently and it won't damage it. However, the cheaper models you get at Wal-Mart or similar only consist of a transformer, rectifier and some Zeners, maybe one or two IC's. This means you can leave the battery on for only about 2 days max otherwise it starts to sulphate and it slowly damages the battery.

I suggest you check the battery water levl, the connect a regular trickle charger to boost it. If you use it wizely it will be fine.
