1. Overfilled oil tank dipstick reading should at or below full.
2. If the sight glass is full you are running to much oil.
3. Excessive blowby caused by worn out piston rings.
4. Piston rings never properly seated.
5. Faulty breather valve or system.
6. Pinched or clogged breather line/hose.
7. Clogged or failed oil filter.
8. Contaminated oil dirt-rust-water etc.
9. Excessive oil foaming.
10. Wrong oil type not designed for your bike.

Oil on spark plug

That is not good. That sometimes indicates mechanical problems with the engine itself. Bad valve guides, bad rings, etc. If the machine is not too old, then maybe the fuel system has pulled oil into it from the breather. The breather is a little metal cover on the side of the engine opposite where the air filter is that allows the engine to "vent" it;s operating vapors back into the fuel sytem to be burned with the gas. It is the equivalent of a pollution control valve on a car. If the engine has been tipped for any length of time (like to remove blade or drain oil), sometimes oil gets into the breather and then is sucked into the carburetor and fuel system. This could be your issue too. At this point, I would recommend, remove the breather and see if it is oil fouled. Clean and reinstall the spark plug and check it again after running a little.

Oil system manual for a 1987 softail (evolution). oil leaking from breather of engine system.

On your '87 Softail, the engine breather vent is behind and below the oil pump. The air from the breather is routed into the engine air filter by a metal pipe and rubber tubing that runs from the breather vent to the air filter. It is common to get a bit of oil in the air filter because of this system. The system was designed to meet EPA regulations of the time. Since then, the breather system has been modified to allow the engine to breathe at the top of the heads instead of down low on the engine. This resolves some of the problem with oil getting into the air filter but it still does not eliminate it. The only way to eliminate the oil from getting into the air filter is to reroute the air from the crankcase breather vent to somewhere else. Most people just let it exhaust underneath the bike by putting a small breather filter on the end of a short piece of rubber hose connected to the breather vent.

Good Luck

Oil fogging out/emit from engine going to the breather & turbo valve? what are the causes? the mechanic says it's piston ring problem...Is there any problem aside from that?

If it smokes alot at first start up, it could be bad valve seals and guides. If you have high miles (200,000) this is an engine rebuild too. My first guess would be bad rings. Sorry

Pressure washer that leaks oil through the air breather

Most likely your air filter is plugged or dirty, or the crank case vent valve needs to be cleaned.if it still does it check that the oil level is at the full mark, if overfilled it would cause the same problem.

1000s breather

by the frame but from looking at old posts it seems it should be mounted into the spigot on the engine casing? Also my bike has K&N's so obviuosly the old airfilter box has been removed. Thus the vent to atmoshere which used to run through this box now simply runs down to the back of the engine. ... so my 2nd question is this... should this vent to atmosphere have a valve on it? ,The breather system should have one valve in it and it should be AFTER the breather box on the line that vents to atmosphere. THis is to stop wet cold air entering the breather box and mixing with hot oily air and making mayonaise or aioli. Guzzi's earlier attempts put two valves between the breather box and crankcase - stupid. If you're bike has the old breather box and not the breather box in the frame like the later square fins then remove them - one is hidden in the supply pipe in the breather box - remove with hammer and screwdriver. This will also stop the engine pumping oil up the return line and out of the engine. Any 4 cylinder automotive spring loaded PCV valve will do pretty well. You can improve the efficiency of the breather box by lightly stuffing it with stainless steel wool or such. If the rings are good and the sump level is right it will not drip oil IME.,,,
