How to fix horn on 2005 Pontiac grand am when not working

You need to get a test light or voltmeter. Open the hood go the horn and it will have a plastic plug with wires that plugs into the horn and unplug it. You then need to have someone to press the horn and while they hold horn down you take the test light and insert the tip into the plastic plug from horn. ( depending on how many wires go into plug) you touch the end of test light to the end of each wire inside plug.. One wire should make your test light light up everytime the horn is pressed. If it does light up your test light your horn is most likely bad and needs replacement. you do pretty much the same with a voltmeter.. but a voltmeter has two wires and a display screen. A black and red wire.. you have to hold the black wire to a piece of metal on the car and touch the red lead to the inside of the plastic connection when the horn is pressed one wire should show on the display 12 to 12.5 volts.. if you don't have 12 volts on one of the wires when your press the horn the horn is most likely bad and requires replacement. If you do not have voltage at the horn plug. You most likely have a blown fuse or a short in the wiring. or the actual horn assy..what you press to blow horn could require replacement. You can buy a test light or voltmeter at any auto parts store almost always have one under 10 dollars.. you can find both at Walmart as well. You can get a voltmeter for around 10 dollars, but a test light is easier to use and you can use it to check your fuses as well.

My horn suddenly stopped working. everything else works and the horn was working but now it's not

Possibly but I'd check the button on the handlebar switch first, the contacts become corroded over time.
With the ignition on, press the button & wiggle it at the same time. If you get sound from the horn, then there's your problem.
If no sound, take the switch off the bar & clean up the contacts behind the button with a bit of light sandpaper & a drop of fuel on a rag.

I disconnected my battery and cleaned the cables and re-connected. Now my car will not start. The lights work the horn etc. What do i need to do to start the engine?

the battery may be faulty, just because the lights & horn work doesn't mean that the battery is enough power to start the engine the battery may have a weak sell that breaks down when you engage the starter try turning the headlights on & then try to start the engine & see how dull the headlights become,if they almost go out the battery is very low or faulty......hope this helps......cheers.

Check the horn relay is ok,
Check the horn ground is ok.

Place a trouble light across the horn supply- when horn is pressed it should light up steady.
If it lights up, the voltage to the horn is ok -then a replacement horn should fix it.

1995 Prizm Horn Problem

keep the steering wheel in one spot, do not rotate,  check horn by pressing pad in different areas.  If it is intermittent then horn pad is concern.  If it works well trying slowly turning steering wheel while pressing horn pad if there is a point in turning the wheel where horn becomes inop, then the common fault is the horn contact ring inside of the steering column
