SOURCE: Exhaust Pipes on 1995 Suzuki Intruder VS

Hi Lcyr.
Any changes you make to the exhaust system will alter the sound the bike produces. The more you cut baffles, and open up the exhaust, the louder it will get.  What you do alter to a greater extent,is the state of tune of the motorcycle. Any changes to exhaust or inlet plumbing will require a retune of the engine to suit the modifications. This can be subtle to dramatic. Opening up exhausts can often rob low end power where exhaust port scavaging is relient on some back pressure for maximum effect.
Best to work directly with an engine tuner to do the mods that are known you can get away with, or buy aftermarket prebuilt pipes that have a known previously tested state of tune. Nothing worse than doing something, that then costs money to put back the way it was on finding out it didnt work as well as was hoped.. Hope this has helped you steer your custom mods a little.  I can say with certainty, that I have ventured to do what you are doing many times in the past, and it has always cost me more money in tuning and... and well more parts :)  Cheers

Hey ive got a rm 125 its got plenty of spark, compression and its getting fuel. But when you kick it its got a wierd noise were the ehxaust goes into the barrel.and wont kick over?

Remove the exhaust and see if the bike will start. The pipe could be plugged up with mud at the end of the pipe or an internal collapse in the pipe could be stopping the exhaust from exiting the pipe.

My 98 wr 250 wont hit band properley ive changed the plug cleaned the carby and still the same starts perfect takes off just wont hit band properly

Be sure the exhaust pipe is not partially plugged up with dirt. If not, remove the exhaust pipe and go for a quick ride down the street. If the power band is back, the pipe has an internal blockage. If not, then remove the carb and air filter for cleaning. If no luck then pull the head and run the piston to the bottom. Check the exhaust port for carbon build up. Clean out any build up with a screw driver, preferably from the exhaust side. Decarbon the head and the top of the piston and reassemble top end and exhaust pipe. If still no joy, the crank seals, (and possibly the crank bearings) probably need to be replaced.

Oil leak by exhaust pipe

I am not personally familiar with a 1975 DT250, but here is a general overview. If the bike is a 4 stroke, the oil you observed could have been from the exhaust, however it is more likely that it is from a leaky valve cover gasket or a head gasket. If the bike is a 2 stroke, the "oil" is from the exhaust (expansion chamber). It is excess 2 stroke oil that accumulates. You should reduce the mix to 32:1 or even 40:1 and replace the oring gasket in the opening of the pipe. If in a pinch you can use high temp silicone, but not a good way to go.
best wishes!

Scatter gun approach > thoughts to check out > > >
Clean and dry the air filter? Go back to a stock main jet, at least to check things out? Are "O" ring seals on the main jet going bad?Partial internal collapse in exhaust (remove exhaust pipe & do a quick run down the alley), Install a new stock NGK spark plug, Be sure battery connections are clean and tight, Be sure intake manifold and carb are good and tight.

Hope this helps!
