SOURCE: Exhaust glows bright red.

These bikes dont like to idle for very long. If you ride at a reasonable pace, it shouldn't glow for long. If it persists... Your jetting is too lean. Check out thumpertalk.com for a pictorial step by step how to re-jet

sound like you need to have the catalytic converter checked. when a catalytic converter gets plugged up it will cause the exhaust pipe to get really hot or red. and show the symptoms you are describing. a good muffler shop should be able to test it. good luck

Exhaust glows red hot on dr650 after running on idle for about a minute, spark plugs very black/covered in carbon build up. Shouldnt the exhaust only get that hot running lean? surely then plugs would

If the bike is equipped with any kind of catalytic converter, then the extra raw fuel is burning up in the cat causing the glowing hot exhaust, and all that unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber is fouling the plugs.

Wr450 exaust glowing after running

Hi, Alison_josep your motorcycle is a high-performance dirt bike designed to run flat out that being said if you are strolling down some scenic trail at a slow speed or letting the bike idle for a few minutes your header pipe will turn cherry red, why you ask? It is not a street bike, it is designed for competition and weight is a major factor all necessary components are of the smallest and lightest design necessary to maintain performance under extreme conditions ie. small radiator and inside frame oil reservoir that doesn't get cooled, the majority of your riding needs to be at high speed. Yamaha xt225 serow front exhaust pipe glows red within 5mins of starting also running rough

Fueling issue running far to lean, choke makes the circuit richer so it will run , lean running causes over heating and serious engine damage if its running red hot, check the plug for white burnt or blistering will show lean running. Compression test to make sure the piston ring and barrel are not damaged over 110psi. Is the exhaust blocked restricted or dented ?

It won't be valve timing or clearance. The fuel/air mix would be the culprit. Clean the carburetor with special attention to the idle circuit. Remount the carb with new manifold gaskets. A manifold air leak will mess up the mixture. Also, get a new spark plug one heat range colder than stock. Hope this helps out!

did you re-jet when you put the pipes on? a too lean mixture can cause pipes to glow red hot

Very slow to start huskey te 250 on a 53 plate

The engine is water cooled. The exhaust pipe is air cooled. Sitting idle and revving the engine is likely to exceed the cooling capacity of the motionless air. Air needs to flow over the pipe to cool it. If the pipe is glowing red while riding then consider re-jetting the carb. Too lean a fuel/air mixture burns hotter.
