SOURCE: 1998 kdx 200 clutch will not dis-engage

The clutch's plates must be stuck.Disassemble them and renew if necessary.The clutch lever should have 3mm freeplay and the spring's bolts should be tighten at 14Nm.

SOURCE: recently snapped my clutch lever off my kx 250

Be sure you were given the correct cable, The stock cable is part number 54011. Compair the old cable to the new one.

How do I adjust the clutch cable on my Harley softail


On the clutch lever(handlebar) there is a screw type adjuster- loosen the ring and wind the barrel out by a full turn. If this isn't enough do it again until you have the clurtch biting (dis engaging )at approx half travel. The just takes up the slack caused by the cable stretching over time. I hope This helps.

If you've run out of adjustment on the lever, try the other end at the clutch cover (near your right knee when sat on it)

If you pump the clutch lever it will engage the clutch. when you pull in the lever without doing this it will not engage. How do i fix this problem?


Take cover off the clutch reservoir and check the fluid level. Fill it if necessary. Look for leaks between the clutch lever/reservoir, down the hose to the clutch slave cylinder. If no leaks visible, slowly squeeze clutch lever and release, watching for air or fluid pumping in the reservoir. Repeat until clutch has a solid pull. If the pull doesn't improve and stay good, you'll need to bleed the hose and slave cylinder. Locate the bleed valve at the clutch, squeeze the lever till it's a good solid pull, hold it in, and open the bleed valve. Watch for air bubbles. After doing this several times, you should get nothing but fluid. Refill the reservoir and close it. Good riding

Have a problem with the clutch. On cold days my clutch would not engage. drained the fluid and cleaned out the resevoir to the master cylinder. Fluid after cycling came back dirty. Took apart the master...


Old dirty fluid may still be caught in the seals of the piston or may have damaged them.
This will stop the piston from returning all the way and engaging the do not start if not in neutral or stand not up, If clutch is pulled in it will bypass these safety stops until released.

Hyd.clutch for transmisson will not engage or dis-engage,brkn.,inop.total broke...would like complete info on the repair....I have not ck'd the problem myself..i u/stand it could be a bleed job.. the bike...


Hello,

You might try the following 1st:

1) Remove the dust cap from the bleed valve on the Clutch Slave Cylinder.
2) Connect a clear tube to the bleed valve on the Clutch Slave Cylinder - make sure you have a long enough length of tubing so that you can put a loop in the tubing higher than the bleed valve to prevent air from entering the system.
3) Place the other end of the tube into a clean container and fill the container with enough DOT 4 fluid to keep the end of the tube submerged.
4) Clean the top of the Clutch Master Cylinder and remove the screw holding the cover on. Remove the cover and the diaphragm.
5) Check the fluid level, and if low, fill the reservoir almost to the top line. Replace the diaphragm and cover and tighten the screws loosely.
6) Apply the Clutch Lever, slowly, several times and hold the lever in the applied position. Open the Bleed Valve and allow the Clutch Lever to compress completely. Tighten the Bleed Valve and release the Clutch Lever.

Repeat this step until all air bubbles are out of the system. NOTE: make sure to check the reservoir often to keep the fluid level full so air won't enter the system. When finished, make sure to keep the Clutch Lever pulled all the way in and tighten the bleed valve then replace the dust cap. If the lever still feels spongy, it will be necessary to repeat all the steps again until the Clutch Lever feels firm and gives the same feel each time it is applied.

Once you are finished bleeding the clutch system, make sure the fluid reservoir is full and tighten the screws on the cover. Do not apply too much force when tightening these screws as they have a tendency to strip.

Rattle and slippage when engaging clutch, only when hot after a ling ride. does not rattle or slip at all when clutch is fully engaged.


Clutch plates may be worn. You would have to pull the side cover to inspect them. Honda clutch's always rattle at an idle when in neutral. If you just pull in the clutch lever the rattle will go away. Let the lever out and it will rattle again. As for the slippage, if your clutch cable is binding at all it will keep the clutch from fully engaging when you release the handle. This will cause the clutch to slip for a second or two until the cable fully releases from the bind. Any resistance in the cable and you should replace it.

Craftsman riding mower blades won't disengage


This is too late, but for the next person: There is an extension spring around the cable attached to the blade engage/disengage lever.

On my tractor one end of the spring had the hook broken off or it. Because it is around the cable it is still in place but doesn't stretch when you engage the blade (so can't pull the pulley out and slacken the belt when you disengage).

The replacement is a few dollars and can be bought on ebay or Amazon.

Wire clutch adjustment


dunno if that's backwards. Anyway: adjusted to just minimum sane play it barely engages with the lever fully in. If I would have to adjust the lever to any shorter position (for smaller hands) it would probably not engage fully. I understand there is an adjustment at the clutch arm down behind the gearbox. If I adjust there what will happen? I'm guessing I can wind that one in a bit then loosen the wire a bit. Will this solve the problem or will I be back at where I am now?,The arm only has limited travel, and there is a screw adjustment between the arm and the end of the clutch push-rod. Not sure what it is on the 1100s; it could be a hex headed bolt or an allen grub, but it's a bugger to get at because the swinging arm is so close. There's going to be some sort of locknut which will have to be slackened first. Make small adjustments, screwing in towards the 'box, and trying the clutch lever each time. ,,,
