if its not a drive axle and only has a castle nut with a cotter pin , then regrease the wheel bearings and run nut all the way in to its hand wrench tight (not impact gun), turn wheel one or two full turns to seat it , then back castle nut off two spaces and install cotter pin , this s\is std way to set proper spacing on wheel bearings

if its a drive axle consult your cars model and make and year torque specs book

Torque specs for castle nut and lock nut to inner tie rod

tighten tight by hand then line up the cut out in the castle nut to the hole in the tie rod and insert cotter pin and bend pin so it will not come out.

Need torque scecs for control arm

1) Install or connect the following:
  • Lower control arm
  • Control arm bolts and nuts
  • Ball stud to the knuckle
  • Ball stud castle nut, tighten the ball stud castle nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm), plus 135 degrees

Note: Do NOT loosen the ball stud nut in order to align the ball stud nut slots to the ball stud cotter pin hole. If necessary, tighten the ball stud castle nut in order to align the ball stud castle nut slot to the ball stud cotter pin hole. Ensure that the cotter pin ends do NOT contact the ABS wheel speed sensor, the ABS sensor connector or the drive axle.
  • NEW cotter pin and bend the ends
  • Stabilizer shaft link
  • ABS wheel speed sensor jumper harness to the harness retainer clips
  • ABS wheel speed sensor connector
    • Lower control arm nuts, tighten the lower control arm nuts to 71 ft. lbs. (96 Nm)

How to remove the cotter pin from the rear brake arm on 2003 Harley Davidson FXSTi

First it has to be good and straight where it was bent, no knuckles on the pin. Also be certain that if a castle nut is being used that the nut is turned to wher the pin is not in a bind againist one of the castle slots. It should come out under these circumstances. There is a hooked tool called a cotter pin remover that is helpful if it will fit and you have the room for it. Good luck

in 1968 roadrunner you tighten castle nut until becomes tight.then tighten little more to to line up castle nut hole with ball joint stud hole.then install cotter pin through the castle nut.

I usually tighten them hand tight and then tighten it enough to get the cotter pin back in the castle nut and through the cotter pin hole.

How do i replace the outer tie rod on my van

Very simple. 1. Remove the front wheel 2. Take the proper size wrench and loosen the nut on the tie rod and rack and pinion 3. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut where the tie rod goes through the spindle(hub assembly) 4. Remove the castle nut and hit the area where the joint goes through until the shaft comes loose with a hammer 5. spin the outer tie rod off counting the number of spins 6. Reverse this procedure to install. If you need the inner tie rod(inner socket), let me know and I should be able to find a diagram and instructions.

How do i change outter tie rod

Prepare your tie rod and install the grease fitting provided with it. 1. Jack up vehicle and secure on jack stand 2. Remove wheel 3. Turn steering wheel so that access is best to the tie rod assembly. 4. Loosen jam nut on tie rod.Do not disturb or turn this more than what is needed to make it loose from the tie rod as this will be your rough reference point and at least close when installing new tie rod. 5. Remove cotter pin from castle nut where tie rod attaches to spindle assembly. 6. Remove castle nut 7. Remove tie rod from spindle assembly - Free with a hammer striking it on the castle nut shaft to drive it out of the hole. 8. un-thread tie rod from tie rod shaft holding the shaft still with vice grip or other pliers. 9. Install tie rod on shaft until it meets the jam nut. 10. Insert tie rod to spindle, tighten, and install new cotter pin in castle nut. 11. Tighten jam nut 12. Grease tie rod assembly 13. Install wheel and have aligned. Do not skip having this aligned regardless of how it drives, post repair as tie rods absolute length can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Your final alignment will not be accurate until it is set on a rack with an alignment machine.

Don't worry about the metric size. Just call a Suzuki parts department and tell them Year and Model of your bike and see if they have a nut in stock. The nut is what is called a "castle nut". There should be a cotter pin inserted through the castle and through the drill hole in the axle then spread around the nut. This keeps the nut from coming loose.

I believe the part number for the nut is 09159-12027
The cotter pin number is 04111-25308

How to replace

well jack up one side of car. take off tire. back off stop nut against tie rod. (their are only outter tie rods to replace on your rack and pinon car) remove cotter pin & castle nut. pop tie rod with screw type extraction tool, or pickle fork if you must. once loose you just spin old one off & new one on. if you do not move the wheel it should silp right in. tighten stop nut,castle nut, insert cotter pin. GREASE the joint. put on tire. do the other one the same way. GO GET AN ALIGNMENT! it will definently be off. good luck.
