It should be located on the right hand side of the down tube. Turn the handle bars to the left and look on the right side of the down tube. If it is not there or has been filed off most likely it is hot.

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 YZ426 I DO HAVE THE TITLE THATS HOW I KNOW THE VIN NUMBER, ALSO MY TITLE MATCHES THE MOTOR SERIAL NUMBER.

IF YOU DONT HAVE THE TITLE YOU COULD CALL THE YAMAHA 800 NUMBER THEY CAN TRACK DOWN THE SERIAL NUMBER WITH THE MOTOR'S NUMBER.

BUT IT IS STRANGE FINFING SOME ONE ELSE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. COULD IT BE A FACTORY ISSUE? OR A DIFERENT LOCATION FOR THE VIN?

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Low coolant level.
2. Restricted radiator air flow.
3. Faulty thermostat.
4. Coolant pump or fans inoperative.
5. Vent hose crimped.
6. Air in the coolant and needs bleeding.

What is the red bottom on the carb of a 2001 yamaha yz 426

if its the one by the choke it is the "Hot start", if you have trouble starting in warm weather it should help the bike start....i am no mechanic but that is my understanding.

Im wanting to buy a barrel for a WR 426 . Where

Probably at a dealer. Or a local barrel store, just kidding. Check the internet for forums with bikes like yours and ask there too.

JM2LM026264 that's the number that i can find on the bike, but when i enter this vin number they say its not a good one. it is a FZR400/600cc model

There should be 17 alpha neumeric digits. Check the VIN on your title. If less than 17 digits then the bike is more than 10 years old. Take the bike to a dealer, buy some oil and spark plugs then have them look at the bike when they ask what year the bike is.

Is there anywhere I can get step by step directions to fix the front fork seals? I have a 2000 yamaha yz 426 f

owning any bike it is best to buy a manual for it, i have for 30 years for every bike ive owned. aftermarket manual is cheaper than a factory manual, but factory is better. buy a manual for your bike and it will have paid for itself after your first repair.

My motor wont start..!

  1. The carb has 2 choke knobs, red and black one, black for cold start and red for hot start,I found on my 426 that by pulling the black one every time I try to start the bike, the bike starts hot or cold. When it started press the choke knob back.
  2. A dirty air filter will also make the bike difficult to start.
  3. Do not open the throttle even a bit whilst kicking it,the carb tends to flood very easily and then you are going to kick the bike for ever and ever.
  4. The exhaust turning red hot I'd suggest you get the carburator's jetting checked out,it can be because your feul/air mixture is not right and this could also be a factor in your starting problem, but another reason can also be when the bikes stands still whilst idling or even being revd whilst not in motion the engine tends to get very hot very quickly, the bike does not have a electric fan blowing threw the radiator, and if you did not know your exaust system removes between 60-70% of your engines heat,so it will turn red hot if your are not riding so the cold wind can blow over the exhaust and threw the radiator.
  5. You say you get good spark, where did you test it?Did you check the spark plug itself,or only the sparkplug lead,I find the 426 to be very hard on spark plugs, when I find my 426 difficult to start the first thing I change is the spark plug and it solved my problem many times.
  6. You also mentioned you have feul "to" carb but do you have feul - carb to engine.
  7. How does the compresion feel when kicking the kickstarter, any lack in compresion could indicate a sticky valve in the open position, the unexperianced rider will not kickstart this bike due to the amense compression these bikes have (Ratio 12.1).
Just a few suggestions I hope one works for you.

Engine oil

Since you are asking this you do not have a manual or been able to locate the stamping on the outer engine(clutch)cover. I would call your selling dealer and ask the service department shop foreman. There may be a service bulletin or trick to get all the oil out of the engine/frame(if they still run through it like the 426 did) and the oil strainer as well as the oil filter. If you are wanting to just top it off, you might as well change it. It is a race bike intended for very frequent oil changes to insure the clutch and engine/valve train are adequately lubricated. If memory serves me correctly, you are to check the oil after running it for a moment. Call the service department. If they wont talk to you then you either did not buy your bike from them or you should buy your next one somewhere else.Since I take it you bought it used or you would have been instructed on all this as well as supplied a manual, I would buy a manual. I know all this because until 2003 my job was delivering units to new customers and explaining in specific detail how to start/operate/ and maintain the specific machine purchased. Unfortunately not all dealers employ someone to do this.
