I have Hartford 125 hd what position do I need petrol switch in to use bike up or down its 2004

well reserve tank really just takes the tap for the fuel further down in the tank
ie if you place the fuel tap to reserve then you can access the full tank if its on normal you can only access so much down in the tank

anyway its down for reserve and up for main
look here in this you tube vid

Vuka XL 110 What is correct setting for air mixture screw on carburetor?

wined the air mixture screw all the way in and then 2 and a half turns out then start the bike if it will let you (no choke) if it wont start turn another .5 turn until it will start.
Once you get it started leave it running at idle and listen to the engine noise very carefully. give it a rev and even a ride if it stalls wined it out .25 of a turn.

No fuel coming from tank into carb

1) This might sound daft but check if there is actually fuel in the tank. Many bikes have been stripped down by the hard of thinking only to find the tank was empty...or the tap was off... or should be on reserve... 2) Assuming this is a gravity tap (one main pipe) and not a vacuum tap (one main pipe and one smaller pipe at the side) Turn tap to off and remove pipe from tap. Turn tap on and see if fuel flows. If yes, then replace fuel pipe (this should sort it, try again with the pipe off at the carb end and see if fuel comes out. If it does but the bike still won't start then the carb jets are blocked.), if it still doesn't flow then go to3)
3) If there is fuel in the tank then remove tank and pour it out into a can. Remove tap from tank by unscrewing with the correct spanner. 4) Examine the guaze filter, it is probably full of crud and muck. Clean with fresh petrol and replace.
Hopefully that should sort it.

While riding the bike, it starts acting like it is running out of gas and stops. I place it on reserve and it starts, but the gas tank is full of gas. Is it gas filters that I need to change.

HI, YOU DONT SAY WHAT THE BIKE IS, HOWEVER USING A CAN AND A LENGTH OF RUBBER PIPE, FIT ONE END TO TAP AND THE OTHER IN THE CAN, TURN THE TAP TO ON POSITION AND ALOW THE FUELTO FLOW,CHECK FOR CONSTANT FLOW THIS WILL ELIMINATE THE FUEL FLOW RATE ON THE ON POSITION, AGAIN TRY IN RESERVE POSITION AND CHECK FLOW RATE , POSS REASONS COULD BE SEDIMENT OR CONTAMINATED FILTER IN THE TAP, OTHER WISE DO YOU HAVE A TANK BAG FITTED WHICH MAY BE RESTRICTING THE AIR INTO THE FUEL TANK THROUGH THE INTAKE, CHECK FOR RESTRICTIONS AROUND THE FUEL CAP, OR THE RUBBER PIPE WHICH ALOWES AIR INTO TANK(SOME MODELS). TRY THE ABOVE FLOW RATE WITH THE FUEL CAP CLOSED FIRST THEN WITH IT OPEN AND CHECK FOR A CHANGE, HOWEVER, YOU MAY HAVE A RESIDUE OF MUCK OR WATER INSIDE THE CARB/CARBS UNDO THE DRAIN SCREW ON THE FLOAT CHAMBER, THE LOWEST POINT ON THE CARB AND ALOW ALL THE FUEL INSIDE TO BE REMOVED, THIS OPERATION SHOULD BE CARIED OUT WITH THE FUEL TAP IN THE OFF POSITION, CATCH OLD FUEL, AND DISPOSE OF, PAUL

Hi, On the fuel tap what is the Prime position function.

You have a vacuum operated fuel tap. It should have 'on' , 'res' and 'prime'.
In the prime position fuel will always flow from the tank. In the other positions the engine must be running to allow fuel to flow. If the bike has been standing for a few days, fuel will evaporate from the carbs and the bike can be difficult to start. By switching to prime for a minute, the carbs are replenished and starting should be easy. Dont forget to return the tap to on or reserve once started.

I have 2 extra small pipes coming off of the fuel tap and i dont no what they are.can you please tell me what they are for.for my nc24 vfr 400 honda.

A fuel tap normally has 3 pipes, 2 in and 1 out. If you have a fuel tap they you have a manual reserve. The first pipe will be linked to a long tube (main fuel supply) the second will be linked to the "reserve. It is all in the same tank space. When the fuel gets low the main pipe will **** air and the bike will starve fuel. Switch to the reserve and you will be drawing from the lower pipe (reserve, ie start looking for a fuel station) It is not recommended to use the reserve as the fuel in your tank normally has sediment at the bottom and blocks your filters. This sediment comes from the tank rusting and from the fuel pumps drawing bits from the concrete fuel tanks at the fuel stations.

If you strip the tap you will be able to see which is the main and which is the reserve.
Hope this helps

How to refill the reserve gas tank 1981 Honda CX500 motorcycle

there is only one tank to fill on your bike, your getting confused by the reserve. The reserve is just on the fuel tap itself. It has three positions, on , off and reserve. In the on position your fuel tap will be able to drink about 90% of your fuel tank and then it wont be able to drain anymore, then you must turn your fuel tap to the reserve position and it will be able to drink rest of your tank approx 10% that is left. So next time you fill up at a petrol station make sure your fuel tap is set to on, then when your bike starts to splutter out of fuel you can turn your fuel tap to reserve and get yourself to the petrol station to fill up, making sure you then turn your tap to on again. If you keep running out on the reserve it can cause debris in your tank to clog your carb up.
hope this helps
