Question about 1995 Honda VT 1100 C Shadow Spirit

Bike not firing properly, plugs fouled

Honda 1987 VT 1100 C Shadow. Bike is not firing properly.Backfires. Does not accelerate as normal, drove bike up to 2nd gear, engine is ''lugging''. Compression sounds abnormal.
Removed spark plug and electrode/tip is sooty black. Also found sooty black greasy stuff along the spark plugs threads....
Was fine before winter only started up occassionally during winter (Perhaps is this from gunning the engine during winter?.Please, got any ideas?
Thank you.

Could be dirty fuel. Try draining all the fuel from tank and carbs and top up with fresh fuel.

If you used the choke to start the bike last winter, you probably fouled the plugs. Depending on the age of the plugs, you can either clean and re-gap them or replace them with new, which also have to be checked for gap.
Secondly, if you did not run the bike out of fuel after starting it, chances are you have some build up in the carb jets. New, clean fuel and Techron or Seafoam gas treatment will help if it's not too bad. Follow directions on the can. I personally used Seafoam but Techron is recommended by Honda. Be sure to mix per instructions, which on Seafoam is 1 oz. per gal.

Vibrating bike

if the plug is white you are running lean.
plug should be tan to medium brown.
lean will cause rough idle, and popping on deceleration.
resolve = clean idle jet, circuit, and set mixture screw properly.
A job like this should really be left to a professional on that bike.

Timing chain for 1994 honda 1100

If the bike was working normal and do not have more then 50-60 Tmiles, then the chains are o.k., this bikes have a automatic chain tensioner, so, you can start to think about change a chains when you are over 50000 miles. Usually, when chains are on limit, you can hear a rattling sound on the top of cylinders.

Backfires usually comes from bad carb sync and if you put custom pipes also to small jets. But first try to sync the carbs.

Here is link to youtube it is for vt600, it is the same for vt1100:

1100 honda shadow runs on kickstand dies when straight up ready to ride

If the problem occurs only when the side stand is folded up then your problem is that the switch down there is being fouled.
Best thing to do is remove any dirty buildup from the switch area. This is usually worse on a chain driven bike, but I think yours is shaft drive.
Otherwise replace the switch or hardwire bypass it so you don't have to use it.

HELLO i have a 1987 vt1100c shadow and got got the in april this year. Know my budy tels thay are sceanin eagel pipes..when i let off the gas or gear down it back fires like crazy. Is this normal

If the engine is properly tuned, mainly the carburetor...it will NOT POP through the exhaust. If it was "normal" it would do it with the stock pipes. This is not good for the engine and will lead to more severe damage if not corrected. Riders think it's cool and it makes the bike faster to have loud pipes, but few understand it actually hurts the performance and the engine if not done correctly. I hope this helps & good luck with the shadow.

2000 honda 1100 shadow spirit. Rough idle, little power.

Replace the spark plug caps and try again. On Honda's the cap is often part of the wire (a dealer part) NGK makes some inexpensive plug caps about $5 each. They should OHM out to 5000 anything above or below and you need to replace them. This should fix the problem.

Hesitates and backfires through the exaust when accelerating

Sounds as if your timing is not quite right. You need a manual, but The best I can offer is a 98: http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp , it may help, but if you only have 1100 miles on it, I would be taking it to a qualified mechanic to be fixed. Up to you.

Remove plug wire from coil

I would check to see if you have spark before you try to disassemble your bike. Fouled plugs are usually contaminants in the fuel system or your heads are having problems. If you do not have a fuel filter in the bike then try putting one in as this is a cheep fix and gas should be filtered any way. Check the timing to make sure it has the proper amount of advance. Run the bike for a while and if the problem persists. Side gapping the plugs to a larger gap will also help prevent fouling. This is a trick many race car mechanics use. If none of these work, then the heads need to be refurbished.

How to change sparkplugs on honda shadow motorcycle

VT1100 has two spark plugs per cylinder, the sparkplug caps are snap-ons so they're fairly easy to remove. You need a spark plug socket wrench to remove and replace the spark plugs.

2006 honda shadow 600 backfires through the carb

Sounds to me like your running too rich, IE - theres too much fuel being burned as opposed to air. I'd check and make sure your airfilter isnt dirty, anything that restricts airflow can cause this. Dont leave the enricher on once the bikes started up...make sure you have the right plugs in there
