How do you jump the starter on a 93 camary when the silonoid is bad

The solenoid both actuates the gear and competes the battery connection to the starter motor. Only the older designs that have separate solenoids are capable of by-passing the solenoid.

stchk-moqv5rdw220ciln151ylzreo-5-0_0.gif Replace the starter and solenoid as an assembly. Rebuilt are not very expensive.

Hope this helps?

I have a 2005 chevy equinox and when i turn the key, everything comes on when i turn the key but the car will not start however my boyfriend goes under the car ith a screw driver and does something with...

could be the ignition switch, loose or corroded wires to/on the starter assembly (big or small wires), or the solenoid on the starter is bad which is part of the starter assembly and best if replaced all together. Find out from the boyfriend if he is jumping dc+ from the big live wire to the small wire and thus getting power to activate the solenoid (bad wire or switch). If he is just tapping the starter assembly and it activates, internal contacts are shot, and it will quit all together soon. Starters and brake lines are much easier to replace at "your" convenience before there is no option.

If the starter wont work, but will if you bypass / short the solenoid terminals together with a screwdriver, and it turns the starter, the solenoid is burnt out.

Have a 2002 Softail, Bendix gear sometimes grabs the flywheel and then sometimes it doesnt. What can this be..The starter or Cylanoid ?

Your late model bike does not have a Bendix like the older bikes. Doesn't have the conventional solenoid either. It has a Nippondenso type starter. The solenoid is actually part of the starter assembly. Instead of a Bendix, it has what is called an "over running clutch" that does the same thing as the Bendix. Basically, it's a one-way bearing or sprag unit. It is inside the starter assembly and to replace it you must disassemble the starter. The symptoms of this going bad is you'll hear the starter spinning but the engine will not turn over.

Now, if you're only hearing a click and the starter is not spinning, you may have to replace the electrical contacts inside the solenoid. They're are easy to replace. Just pull the plate off the back of the solenoid by taking out the tree small 3mm screws. Pull the plunger and spring out and you'll see the large copper contacts. Harley and aftermarket manufacturers offer the replacement parts kits. The job can by done without taking the starter off the engine most of the time.

Hope this helps,
Good Luck
Steve

Bike wont start press the start button and nothing happens

Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. Unplug the two small wires going to the solenoid and use a voltage meter to see if you have continuity when you press the starter button. If you do not, clean the starter button or replace the switch assembly. If you jump the two cable terminals on the solenoid and the starter cranks, you have a bad solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need new starter brushes. Any other problem with the starter and you will need to buy a new assembly.

Possible starter going out on 95 Legacy

providing your battery cable connections are clean and tight, it is probably the solenoid (starter) thet is worn out... but check all your connections first.

THE STARTER WILL NOT TURN OFF

Sounds like you have a bad starter solenoid. Replace JUST the solenoid...save money....that'll fix your problem.....unless you just want to replace the whole starter assembly!
