1997 HD TLE Sidecar to 2008 FLHTCU wiring harness (lights)

I have a 1997 HD TLE Sidecar that I am hooking up to a 2008 Harley FLHTCU. I have all the correct brackets etc but I I cannot find where I connect the wiring harness from the sidecar to the bike to connect the lights.
Unfortunately I do not have a sidecar service manual and my bike service manual does not list the connection.

The sidecar has a 4 prong female plug and there is a 4 prong female plug under the seat of my bike. I guess Harley sells an adapter to connect the two female plugs?
Thanks for the info. Hopefully it works with my rig.

I'll have a closer look for another plug. The one I found was colour coded orange with yellow stripe, solid black, red with orange stripe, solid red. There was also another blank plug under the seat with a single red wire to a grey female plug.
Thanks again for you time and help
    Wayde.

Thanks for the info.. I have checked under both sidecovers and under the battery box etc had have been unable to find any other open(empty) plug other than the one I have describe above. The Shop Manual describes it as an accessory plug but does not say for what accessories. I suppose I'll have to splurge and fork out the $100 to get a sidecar manual to fill in the blanks. I can't seem to find a website where I can download the manual. Thanks for all your help!!

I've the opposite situation, I've a 1997 FLHTCUi to be connected at 2001 TLE Ultra. Why we don't exchange the electrical wire system of the sidecar?

Does the sidecar harness have a square 4 pin plug? If it does it more than likely connects to the auxillary plug under the seat.

There should be two 4 pin square plugs, 1 is the data link and the other is the auxillary plug.

  • hardan May 21, 2009

The first one you mentioned is the data plug. The Auxillary plug will have a red, blue, orange, and black I believe. You might check under the side covers also...Iknow some of the stuff is moved around on the newer models.

I will look tomorrow when I get to work if I don't forget.

Hi Anonymous, for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix/test or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. 2008 Harley Davidson FLHTCU Ultra Classic Electra Glide speedometer quit working

Hi, Benjamin and the usual suspects are:
1. Contaminated or faulty speed sensor.
2. Faulty turn signal module.
2. Corroded, broken or loose connector pins/sockets in the wire harness between the speedometer and the ECM or TSSM and the sensor.

Fix harley error code p55pb6 on 2008 electra glide

In general, a halfway decent HD service department will plug in their Scanalyzer, tell you what the trouble code is and what it means and reset the ECM at no charge. If they want to charge you for doing this, then find another dealer. My daughter is a board certified physician and she makes less than half of what these blood suckers charge per hour.

Brake light swich on 2008 FLHTCU where is it located

Hi Garysouza23, this problem is usually cause by the front brake light switch being out of alignment or the button not retracting all the way keeping your brake light on in a closed circuit, depending on your model year. 1996 and earlier models the right handlebar switch housing had to be tight up against the front brake control housing in order for the front brake light switch button to be fully compressed to stop continuity. In 1997 and later models the button was alot shorter and was more of an alignment issue in the switch housing. Rear brake light switches located in the rear brake line TEE can also fail in the closed circuit condition but extremely rare, usually they fail in an open circuit condition where the brake light is not able to activate. For a free wiring diagram please visit the website below. Good luck and have nice day.

No brake lights or turn signals on te rear of a 2007 Harley ultra Classic

Hi Mike, always check the bulbs first for broken filaments. Then check the connection at the rear fender wiring harness, inspect for corroded, broken or loose pins. Use a dab of dielectric grease and repair as necessary. Check your brake relay if you have one , some models rear turn signals were single filament bulbs only, no running light. If all else fails get out your test light and start tracking the power wire from the harness connection. For a free wiring diagram please visit the website below and good luck:

How do i wire a sidecar to a 2003 fatboy

The only thing there is to wire is a tail light and a stop light. tap into the wires running under your rear fender going to the tail light assembly. Turn on the switch, and test the two wires. One will be hot, this should be the tail light. Go to the other wire, it should be "cold", step on the brake pedal and it goes hot. This is the brake light wire. Use those crimp on splicers like they use to wire trailers on cars with. Put the splicers on the sub harness going to the tail light not the main harness. That way, if the wire is damaged, you can buy a sub harness much cheaper than a main harness and it's a LOT easier to put on.

Good Luck
Steve
