Hi, now there it could be one of two faults, the brake magnetic core is not releasing the brake after a period of time, it's breaking down , other-words it's dragging or the voltage from the controller is not high enough or not enough current , a controller fault...check the wiring going from the controller to the brake... now a simple test would be to remove the brake but still have it connected via the two wires and tape on to the motor now you must be careful here because the scooter will roll if near a incline etc...so you been warned !!!! ... does the scooter run okay now ?

I do repair brakes..

Pride Celebrity x. Batteries drain quickly despite new full charged batteries. When scooter is pushed in freewheel- brakes engage every few feet. Have to turn scooter on/off to get brakes to release.

hi Diane, the brake engaging is by design, distance is the key here

Have you tried another charger ?

1. when pushing the scooter in freewheel before the brake engages , is it easy to push ? what can happen is the brake does not release 100%, a easy test is to run the scooter then put your hand on the brake unit , is it hot ? be careful because it could be very hot , this will prove the brake is not releasing fully.

Re: Pride Celebrity X. Batteries drain quickly despite new fully charged batteries. Also when scooter is turned off and in free-wheel, the brake engages after just a few feet. Have to on/off to reset

New Batteries must broken in, For the first 20 Charges, do not allow the power level to go below half way before recharging. Charge the batteries in a warm environment. Also, if charging in a cold environment the batteries won't get the best range. Batteries have 60% of their capacity when the temp. is 32 degree F. At 0 degrees F. the batteries will only have 40% of capacity. Batteries have shrinkage. Good news the capacity best at 80 degrees.
If the brake is hanging up, it will cause drain on the batteries. A sure sign is, if they are hanging up is after 10 min. of running the brake will be very hot to the touch. It sometimes turns the brake blue in color or rusty.
The brake engaging while in freewheel mode is supposed to be a safety, to keep run-a-ways from occurring. I agree with you it is aggravating when you try to push the scooter. Scooter Doctor App

My boss has an Elite Traveller that won't move. The battery is fully charged and its in the unlock position. Please advise. Thank you in advance for your help.

  • When the manual freewheel lever is pushed forward, the brakes are disengaged and all power to the motor/transaxle assembly is cut.
  • Pull back on the manual freewheel lever, turn the Travel Scooter off, and then back on to return to normal operation.

My jazzy pulls to the right what is wrong

Does the chair only pull to the right when you are going up an incline or over a threshold? If it appears to be working fine on a flat surface then you may have a motor getting weak. If this happens on all surfaces you may have a few issues. The brake on the right side may not be releasing completely and is dragging. Replacing the brake should fix that issue. The other issue may be that the freewheel engager is disengaged. Engage the wheel and you should be fine. If this fixed the problem and it comes back then you might need a technician to look at it. I have found that the customer had someone else look at the chair/motor to save some money and took the motor off the chair. Normally there are no serviceable parts but if they forget to replace or lose a small spring under the motor engager lever you will experience the chair disengaging under load. If none of this helps. You will need to get a qualified tech to look at the unit.

What does a flashing yellow light mean on the joystick? the light looks like the shape of a wrench.

Hi Judy,

According to Pride's troubleshooting documents the service indicator (wrench icon) will flash when a fault is detected by the dynamic controller.

The number of flashes, followed by a 2 second pause, indicates the issue. You will need to count the flashes to determine the cause and a possible solution.

I have typed the flash codes below, but you can also see them on a larger table here: http://www.fixya.com/support/p3641679-pride_jazzy_614_hd_jazzy_614hd/usermanual-6B42026-pdf

FLASH CODES
Code #1

  • Cause: Possible Stall Timeout
  • Possible Solution: Turn joystick off, then on.

Code #2
  • Flash Code: Two, pause, two

  • Possible Solution: Charge batteries, check battery connections and fuses.

Code #3
  • Flash Code:Three, pause, three
  • Cause: Left Motor Fault

  • Cause: Right Motor Fault
  • Possible Solution: Make sure the right motor is plugged in.

Code #5
  • Flash Code: Five, pause, five

My '97 dodge neon will not start when it's hot outside. When it's cooler like in the morning it will start and run fine. My car will also stall out if it gets too hot. It's not an over heating problem...

Try changing the coolant sensor. I'll bet your gas mileage is less than normal too. The sensor is not reading correctly when hot & is not allowing the computor to advance the timing to adequate levels thus the poor performance. It is located near the thermostat housing. You may lose a little antifreeze when you remove it. Also if you unplug the sensor when the engine is hot, it will run much better in the meantime. Just plug it back in for start up. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Gps loses signal

It would be good to make sure that the 951 software is up to date. The most recent software upgrade includes new code required due to changes that have been made to the GPS system. You can download the software for free from the Northstar web site but it requires a loader cable, power supply and a Windows based PC to perform the update. Most Noprthstar dealers know how to do this but they will charge for their time. The GPS antenna should be mounted where it has a 360 degree uninhibited view of the sky right down to the horizon to get best performance. Basicially any conductive material including pigmented paint, tinted glass or wet canvas can block the signal. Inspect the GPS coaxial cable and it's connections for any signs of corrosion or contamination. Sometimes just removing and reinstalling the connections is enough to remove contamination and get better performance. If in doubt concerning the coax and it's connections, temporaily substitute a new coax assy by-passing the existing cable to see if this makes a difference. You can monitor changes from the GPS status page. See the user manual for information concerning how to understand the numbers being presented. You should be tracking at least 4 SATs with signal levels higher than 30. Generally 95% of all GPS signal issues are related to the coax or its connections.
