Question about 1987 Honda GL 1200 Aspencade Gold Wing

Me transmission is stuck in second gear in my 1987 honda goldwing

I was operating my 87 goldwing 46,000 mil.and the transmission got stuck in secong gear and wont come out of this gear.my clutch ingages ok so the bike will rev. with the motor runing.

You have a bent shift fork. The repair is major surgery by the dealer. Sorry for the bad news.

1987 Aspencade 1200 parked it in 2nd gear wouldn't come out gear, cooled down and came out, is this the bent shift rod-app cost.

1987 jeep wrangler, BA 10/15 transmission stuck in first gear. What is likely cause in transmission?


a stick shift.
ok ill do stick shift 101..... (repaired many a box i have)
first off it can be 3 things, the stick bad. the box and the clutch.
so can you shift all gears , engine off, and parked.?
Q1: yes/no.?
if yes, can you shift to 2nd gear, parked & engine off
and then start engine and move in second gear using the clutch pedal.?
ill stop here, as most get lost , if i post the full diagnosis..... end.
we can go way beyond this. easy.

Hopefully it is not bent shifting forks in the transmission because that means pulling the tranny. Try rocking the bike back and forth while clicking down on the shifter, with engine off.

sounds like a bad shifter fork, and the gears that you are shifting into as well as the shift drum is worn. the trans will have to be disassemble to inspect.

Clutch not engaging? If you have the bike in gear and engine not running...release the clutch you can still roll the bike? Can you feel proper tension on the clutch lever?

Yes, Honda recommends 10w-40 year round. For hot weather or for long trips 20w-50 is good. Use only JASO MA certified motorcycle oil . DO NOT use any oil that says ENERGY CONSERVING on the label. It will shorten transmission gear and wet clutch life. Both Amsoil and Mobil One make excellent full synthetic motorcycle oils. Your engine will run cooler and shift smoother. You should also consider synthetic hypoid gear oil in your rear end, it will also benefit from less friction and will run cooler .

I have a 1987 Accord LX 4 dr. When driving at approximately between 55 to 60 mph the transmission shifts back and forth between 3rd and 4th gear with the slightest acceleration. It seems to me it's doing...


Depends on the throttle position, there is a adjustment for that transmission. I would suggest someone who has Honda experience, like a dealer.
