1 Answer

I own a 1999HONDA CBR250RR.Sometimes when i try to start the bike the engine will turn over once or twice but then their is a loud noise[metal on metal sound]after which the engine will not turn over.If i then change the gear from neutral to 3rd or 4th gear and push the bike back and forward while in gear and turned off it effectively free's the engine and i can start the bike as normal. What could be causing this?

Sounds like either the starter is hanging or the starter clutch is.If it was a more serious mechanical problem,It would still happen after starting.

Please rate this a fixya.

The carb needs repair,It's flooding the cylinder and that can be causing a vapor lock that would also cause the noise due to piston slapping when trying to compress the liquid gas.You can crip the fuel line to that carb and see if it starts and runs or to listen for any other noises as well if you want.

Some times when I try to start the bike there is a loud clunking sound instead of the engine turning over and trying to start, it doesn't do it all the time about half the time is it the starter or...

Is it just one loud clunk when you press the starter, or is it a noise that continues until you release the starter button? If it is continuous, that might be the starter clutch. Unfortunately, a look at the service manual shows that the engine case must be split to access the starter clutch (huge job, engine must be removed from the bike and turned upside down.)

Hi I just replaced the starter motor on my peugeot 206 and it is making strange noises when the engine is turning over and not starting the car. I removed the old one first so that it could be matched

Did you compare the length of the starter drive shaft of the new and old? Sounds like the armature is to long and not disconnecting when released...older models sometimes require shims to correctly set the length...

When I turn the key on and hear the high-pitched whining noise (it's not very loud), the bike starts. No noise, no start. It's intermittent. Failed once on the road. Took to the local Honda shop twice....

That would be my first guess!! If you locate the fuel pump you can try tapping on it and see if it becomes intermittant. Or if it isn't too much just go ahead and change it. Expecially if it left you stranded once already. Sincerely HDTV GURU JAY

Top End noice

Not a lot of information but I assume you're asking about some noise in the top end of your engine on your Heritage.

A Harley-Davidson engine is of an older design being that the valves are pushrod operated. It is not an overhead cam design like a lot of other bikes that try to look like Harleys. Harley has decided to stick with this design for as long as they can because it lends itself to what most Harley riders are looking for in their bikes, the traditional look lines and sound of the older motorcycles.

As such, there are a lot of components in the top end that must have some "running clearance" in order to operate. Push rods, rocker arms, rocker arm bushings, and such. A slight clatter or tapping noise in not uncommon. Now, it the noise if loud enough to make people turn their heads when you start the bike, you may have a problem. Usually a serious problem in the top end of the engine results in a poorly running engine as well.

You engine is equipped with hydraulic tappets. As the engine runs and things start to expand, the tappets are "pumped up" with oil to maintain a "zero clearance" in the valve train. If you have a tappet gone bad, it will make a loud erratic tapping noise that is sometimes accompanied by a bad running engine. You could have lost a roller on the end of a tappet as well. The Twin Cam engine was designed to help remedy the problem with the valve train geometry in the Evolution and earlier engines. It did straighten the pushrods up a bit but I still think it's possible to lose a tappet roller. If the noise is this loud, you will have to pull the tappet blocks and inspect the tappets to see if you have lost a roller.

Good Luck

Engine noise on area of pulleys and sometimes engine tries to sto

Don't know if this helps. Had squeel in belt area. Occasionally engine would stop when squeel got loud and sometimes engine would try to quit while going at various speeds. Found tensioner pulley was bad and changed it. Still squeeled and engine would stop when squeel got loud. This time while sitting in yard. Further checking found binding in power steering pump. Will be putting on new one tomorrow. Hope it works. Will update.

Dryer makes a loud buzzing noise then quits working.

Sounds like the motor's done. That thing is probably the start-run switch. Not worth trying to fix on an old motor. I've found dryer motors to be fairly generic, you should be able to find a replacement. I use when I can't get parts locally.
