What year and is it carb or fuel injection? Chances are you have a carb model as fuel injection rarely gives this problem. Check choke operation on the carb. Assumes all other areas o/k, that is battery, ignition, starter motor etc. as a slowly turning motor is harder to start when cold.

Sounds like the oil is thick. Do you know what weight oil was installed last? If there was 40 weight put in and its getting colder out it get thicker. You can change the oil to a 30 weight and change the filter to see if that helps.

SOURCE: 1991 CBR1000FN now wont start.

Try checking if you have fire at the plugs, pull a wire and use an old plug. If no fire check kill switch housing contacts, be careful and slow when pulling the housing apart! Mine had corroded contacts which stopped me cold. If that is not it I would start checking and cleaning the plug connectors to the spark unit, CDI box.

Good Luck

Suzuki gs550L will not start in hot humid weather.

Hi, Dan some bikes get "Sun Stroke" after running fine in the morning then shut off and parked in the sun for a couple of hours on a hot day. You get back on the bike hit the starter button and nothing happens or the engine turns over but will not fire. Then you put the bike in the shade for 20-30 minutes and it fires up no problem.
The primary reason for this phenomenon is faulty wire connections in the Starter and/or Ignition Circuit. You may have a wire connection/component that makes just enough contact when cool to start and run the bike, but when parked and exposed to direct sunlight heat causes expansion and creates an "OPEN" in the circuit not allowing the bike to start. You move the bike into the shade for a few minutes, the temperature goes down allowing the connection to contract and make better contact and suddenly "it's a miracle" the bike starts. I know what you're thinking that Gremlin could be anywhere, and you would be right in that assumption, you can take your bike to a dealer, spend tons of "DRACHMA" only to receive validated nervous emotions the next time you park in the sun, then 1 week later it doesn't start. Start by doing a ground check:
Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. Check all common grounds for the same suspects.
The secondary reason your bike may get "Sun Stroke" is vapor lock although this is a rare scenario it does happen.

2000 Mitsubishi diamante runs great till weather turned cold now having problems with idle dropping at lights and dying. New plugs and wires new battery cables and wires and good battery. Need opinion

  • This will happen to a lot of people as the weather begins to cool. I suggest making sure you get gas from a reputable service station for one. Just as important make sure to put a bottle of HEAT in your tank with every fill up(half a bottle for half a tank fill up on fuel).

  • What happens is there is already a certain amount of water no matter where you get fuel from as the storage tanks have a lot of water in them. That alone with the colder weather makes for rough starts and at times poor running conditions in the colder months because water freezes and makes the gas hard to pass through to the injectors and greatly effecting the engine firing properly. Heat will dry this water up and make your fuel flow much easier and burn a little better too.

  • Try this and you will notice a difference. Just about anyone will during the colder months.

  • Hope this helps.

My jeep wont start in cold weather even when it is plugged in. turns over but wnt fire. starts good when the weather warms up. replaced distributor. new battery. new coil.

Sounds like you need to have your ecu repaired. I've seen this problem on 91-98 Grand Cherokees due to components inside the ecu slowly failing, and really acting up when the weather is colder. A good indicator as to if you have this problem is if your check engine light takes a while to light up, on the dash, when you turn the ignition on, before trying to crank the engine. If the light is delayed in your jeep, you need to repair the ecu.

When it's cold out side the bike wont start. Why could that be?

how cold when this happens? is the choke adjusted properly, is the battery in good shape and spins the engine fast, weak battery is single biggest cause of hard starting in cold weather, if the battery is good it really zings the motor fast. are u using the proper grade of fuel and the fuel is fresh? using higher Octane than recommended will cause a hard start in colder weather. This advice comes from 45 years of owning and repairing my own Japanese bikes.

Not starting

There is also a problem with the decompression timing with these bikes. The cable will stretch over time, and cause a kick back while trying to crank over instead of firing. If you research the Internet you;ll find this to be very common, especially with colder weather and bikes that have sat for long periods.
