Sounds like your battery is dead and will no longer hold a charge. Take it a local auto parts store where they can test it.

2004 Virago is totally dead electrically - possible problem?

Did it just die or did it fail to start. You say battery is good how old is it?
My SV 650 has had 4 batteries in 9 years the last one got me to work and died at switch on to go home it was 22 months old. MF batteries give no warning they just die. If you put them on charge they will tell you they are fully charged almost immediately. I would buy a new battery and charge it up (do not use a car charger) the charge rate must be 1 amp max. Low charge rate is best for bike batteries. Fit the newbie and then you can better check the rest of the electrics if it wont start. Please remember to undo the negative lead first for removal and connect the positive lead first when refitting a battery.

How can I make sure I wont suffer from battery failures?

In order to make sure that your battery won't die on you, make sure to fully charge it every time. One of the mistakes people make is only partly charging the battery at a time, which leads to battery failures in the long run. 2004 Pontiac Montana -brand new battery, new alternator(not rebuilt). have to jump start and runs for a while then dies some times wont take charge. battery will die not running in a day. very intermi

First, you can't and shouldn't test an alternator by disconnecting the battery cable while the engine is running. You run the risk of cooking the alternator and the computer. Thats how we used to test generators back in the last century.
Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ? Is the battery charge warning light on ?
There should be a fuseable link between the alternator and the battery that could keep the alternator from charging the battery.
The ignition module would have no effect on the charging system.

My tom tom wont charge it was working just fine, i'm in cal, and now it won't charge, the battery dies, AND I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I'M GOING TO SUCCESFULLY GET HOME WITHOUT IT

Have you got the in car charging lead for it which plugs into the cigaret socket. This will by pass the battery and should let you use the unit to get home. If not you will need to buy a map. Good luck.

Check the drive belt tension and wiring connection at the alternator and at the battery. Check for a blown fuse in the fuse block . -hope this helps

1998 ford contour start up, alternator? battery?

may i ask? when you jump start from doner car battery?? do you connect battery to battery with leads? reason for querie is the correct method is=connect leads to doner terminals on battery then on your car connect +LEAD TO YOUR BATTERY BUT THE NEGATIVE LEAD TO THE ENGINE ENSURE GOOD CONTACT ? if engine starts then ? you will have to check the earth lead from battery to engine connection it may be loose or deteriated ? doing the above test you are using doner battery power SO to check your cars battery ?and whether it is an earth connection fault? just connect 1xjump lead from your cars neg terminal on battery and the other end to the engine providing a good suplimentary earth to enable starter to function properly due to its high amps load needed if it works? check as explained above ? please update back on progress if any? good luck

Most laptop batteries die - that is, fail to hold a charge, after a few years use, and have to be replaced. That is the probably the reason for your problem.
