SOURCE: how do i stop the clutch rattle on my 600

Hi,,,,this rattle is a well known problem on the diversions.

The problem can be cured by replacing the dowel on the oil pump drive,,its no good using a yamaha one as the hole it fits in is worn,,,you can cut the shank off a 7/32" drill bit and use it to cure the problem.

I have a 1990 goldwing we though we had a clutch rattle I put a new one in. The rattle is still there. Its not a rod or a main the rattle goes away when you give it gas what could it be I am lost

It really depends on the sound, but all Honda clutches rattle at idle. The rattle goes away when you pull in the clutch lever or put the bike in gear.

I have an engine knock when the bike idles, this goes away when the clutch is pulled in. It also goes away when the bike ticks over about 900 - 1000 revs?

I have the same thing on my 2002 750 Honda Magna I have 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers) The motorcycle operates flawlessly except for this noise. What it is, is the wear in the clutch plates allowing them to rattle. When you pull the clutch you have put pressure on these plates and the rattle stops. Also when you increase the revs a little the plates tighten up from centrifugal force. I'm just putting up with it until I have to replace the clutch, after replacement of the worn parts the noise will be gone as well.

Clutch noise

All Honda clutches from the early 70's to present rattle and make noise when idling. When your pull in the clutch the noise goes away. If you are in gear and riding they are quiet. When just sitting and running they rattle. Sorry, it's standard for original equipment.

Rattle and slippage when engaging clutch, only when hot after a ling ride. does not rattle or slip at all when clutch is fully engaged.

Clutch plates may be worn. You would have to pull the side cover to inspect them. Honda clutch's always rattle at an idle when in neutral. If you just pull in the clutch lever the rattle will go away. Let the lever out and it will rattle again. As for the slippage, if your clutch cable is binding at all it will keep the clutch from fully engaging when you release the handle. This will cause the clutch to slip for a second or two until the cable fully releases from the bind. Any resistance in the cable and you should replace it.

This is normal, it is the clutch plates rattling, when u apply pressure it holds the plates tight.

this sounds like it could possibly be a noisy thrust bearing in the gearbox itself

Rattle under right crank case in clutch area.

Dismantle and inspect all clutch actuating parts. Could find a worn basket or discs.
