Sounds like a carb problem. if its used maybe someone had a different pipe on it, rejetted the carbs, then took the pipe off when they sold it. might also be a simple carb adjustment

SOURCE: my 2008 ttr 230 has been started in months. i

The battery is only the beginning. The carbs are most likely gummed up. The idle jets are plugged, and the old gasoline in there wouldn't help. Your idle jet, (pilot jet, whichever name you prefer) is plugged up in your carburetors. If the bike was stored improperly, or old/dirty gas was in the tank, these jets get plugged up pretty easily. The idle jet is where your bike pulls gas while it has a closed throttle position. Its the smallest jet in the carbs and makes it hell to start a bike when they are plugged up. Good thing for you, is that you only have one carb, and it is very easy to take out and clean. The jets are under the BOTTOM cover of the carbs. You will see the main jet is on a Taller part of the carb and the idle jet is next to that. Here is a picture to help you, It isn't the exact carb, I borrowed this pic from another website. Number 1 is the pilot jet, 2 is the main jet and 3 is where the fuel comes into the carb. This is your float valve. This has to be clear of stuff too or it won't shut off properly and you will leak gas from the carbs. So get yourself a can of carb cleaner and start spraying!

Hi, Anonymous My gut says probably my brain says the answer to this question is way above my pay grade for this situation, I would call or visit my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry.

I have a 2001 yamaha ttr 230 4 stroke that will not start

when you say pop , do you mean Bump start ?

does the ttr have a kick start as well ?

how long has it not been started for - if its a while the petrol may have gone stale

i would also start with checking spark plug - are you getting a spark ?

Take to long to start.. takes almost ten minutes of kick starting... electric starter wont turn over to start bike yamaha ttr 125

The TTR-125 Carburetor's Run Lean by design. Mine had the same issues till I found a post on Thumpertalk.com on Carb and air box Mod. This is a good starting point on gets; 110 and 112.5 main and 17.5 pilot. But you must check spark plug coloring to make sure the jetting is correct. Check spark plug after the bike has been ridden for a wile. I also took out the stock baffle and replaced it with exhaust tip and now it fires up after a few kicks and worms up in a few minutes.

My Yamaha ttr 125 won't start. I cleaned the carb a few days ago and was able to jump start it with my car. I let it run for a while. but now i can't start it again, even when i try to jump it. What's...

I just had a similar issue. Bike would start when cold but once warmed up would die and not restart. My problem was the throttle valve. Check it by removing the black breather pipe at the rear of the carb. Look in the carb and twist the throttle. You should see the throttle valve slide up and down.

SPARK PLUGS FOULED OUT DUE TO LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS OR THE FUEL FILTER PARTIALLY CLOGGED.THAT WILL MAKE CAR HARD TO COLD START.

Carb

make sure the air filter is clean if it is then take your carb off and clen out your main jet large brass jet in center of the bottom of the carb if that does not fix it adjust your air screw on side of carb brass flat head screw turn right until tight lightly not to hard just enough till it feels snug then start at one turn left and rev 2-3 times then go a 1/4 turn left at a time till the bike revs and runs well good luck
