Carb or EFI? If it is a carbed bike I would suspect either your main breaker or your cam position sensor.

You may want to check your coils...sounds like they work when they are cool and quit working when they warm up.

What kind of oil do i use for 2005 harley softtail fxsti

Hi Anonymous, depends on the average temperature you expect to be riding in untill your next oil change. Contact your local dealer for advice. HD makes several different grades of oil. If you elect to run HD 20w50 SYN 3, which I highly recomend, then it does not matter what temperature you are going to ride in. As an added bonus they call it SYN 3 because you can run 20w50 in your engine, transmission and primary and it comes in a single container to change all 3. No longer do have to purchase 3 different types of oil for your Harley. Great stuff

Where is the fuse box on a 2002 softtail fxst

Hi Nick, on a Softail remove seat and directly behind the battery is a black plastic box. The cover slides up and off revealing the starter relay and the system/fuel pump relay for you injected folks and the various assorted circuit fuses. Good luck

I sounds like your engine is running too lean. You didn't say whether your bike was equipped with a carburetor or fuel injected. If this is something that just started, you may have some trash in the carb partially blocking one of the jets, the slow speed jet. If your bike is fuel injected, I'm afraid that I can't help you there as I know nothing about the system. I'm an old school biker and work on the older bikes. I work on year models up to 2000 non-fuel injected. Sorry.

Good Luck

04 fxsti someone knocked the baffles out of exhaust. am i losing power from lack of back pressure? looking at fuel enhancer for the fuel injection what should i look for?

To answer your first question, it's difficult to tell. Usually, you don't lose that much if any power from taking the baffles out of the muffler. This tends to open up the mufller for a more "free flow" but there's enough left there create the backpressure you engine needs. If you're lacking enough backpressure, you'll probably experience a "flat spot" in your throttle response at around 55-65 mph. The only way to certain is have your bike "dyno'd". Make one run with the bike as is and record the horsepower and torque. Then, do it again while holding the blade of a screwdriver across the exit of each muffler. If the horsepower and torque go up, you need more backpressure.

You should not need a fuel enhancer for your bike. Your engine, if stock, is designed to run on pump fuel. I run high test in my bike with no problems. In my opinion, running an additive in your fuel is a waste of money. Now, if you've got a problem like spark knock, you may need to have something checked on your bike. It is a good idea to run a bit of injector cleaner in your bike from time to time for maintenance purposes. Add a few ounces to your tank, don't get it on your paint, to keep the entire fuel system clean. Also, when purchasing your fuel, take notice of the percentage of ethanol mixed with the fuel. Do not run fuel with more than 10% ethanol unless there is nothing else available.

Good Luck

Added two into one exhaust 600 miles ago, a lot of heat near passenger pegs going up highway under load gas guage goes down let off gas it returns to correct gas level also bike has shut itself down...

That was my point, the bike is running hot. The Twin Cam engine has always seemed to run much hotter than the Evolution engines did. I know of several people that bought then sold their TC88 equipped bikes for just this reason.

If your fuel mixture is lean, it will cause your bike to run hot. Bike has a lag when its cold like its something in the motor is in a bid. after 10 miles or so it frees up and runs like its supposed to

What weight oil are you running in your bike? Years ago when we ran the straight 60 weight oil, on a cold morning you had a time kick starting the bike. Another thing is that when your bike is cold, it requires a much richer mixture to run. Whether your bike is fuel injected or carburated, you're running a very rich mixture. The fuel system control or the enricher provides the rich mixture and a rich mixture will make the bike run sluggishly.
