SOURCE: how to get to the negative terminal on the battery 1200 sportster

Nothing needs to be removed. You have to move the swiring around just a little. Magnetize a 11 mmm socket and set it on using a 1/4 inch ratchet, with a short extension. Loosen the nut and pull it out. Its a bi&^%$%^ to get out but it will come right out and then pull the battery out the side. make note on how the cables are set on the battery so you put it back in the proper way and the battery cables dont touch anything when you put them back in the holder. Hope this helps. TOM

SOURCE: 75 sportster ignition switch wiring...looks like

Yes, since the law was enacted that motorcycles must ride with the headlights on at all times, a lot of the earlier bikes were changed so that the headlights would come on when the ignition switch was turned to the ignition postition. Most people just added the jumper but some moved the wire making the switch a two connection only switch.

SOURCE: 75 sportster ignition switch wiring...looks like

What prompted you to mess with the switch? What was wrong?Anyway I don't think thats right. One wire per screw.I'd guess the switch is bad and when key is turned it doesn't connect the right terminals,so the wires were put on the only terminals the switch was fireing up.I'd get another switch. If you look real close each screw has a letter stamped in plastic G for green W for white etc. I think there's a black wire too.Did you check to see if the bike starts with key off?Maybe turning the key on only turns on the lites?Good luck
