There are places that can put a cable inside and put the ends on it but on most things it is not worth it. i had to have a throttle cable repaired and napa autoparts out here had the tooling to put the new cable inside the original housing but was on a cable that i could not buy anywhere it cost around $50 to have it done if the cable is available to buy the whole thing is usually better that way as a little damage inside the housing will end up shortening the new inner's life anyway

Speedometer bounces when I drive. It seems to be the output sensor when I look at it while its running and in gear the output part is not spinning. I cant find the part

Spinning? This is an electronic magnetic sensor so it has no moving parts. If this is an older car with a cable operated speedo I would not call the output section a sensor, but rather the cable drive. A broken cable can make the speedo bounce, and if you disconnect the cable to look at the end of the drive unit you may be looking at a cable input guide which does not move vs. the internal part which spins. With cable removed, spin the inner part by fingers while helper views speedo. Does it move (try both directions). If cable is broken you can buy a universal repair kit.

Speedometer not working

On a mechanical (cable driven) speedometer, the problem's the drive unit, the cable, or the speedo head itself.

You stated the cable is good, so let's eliminate that.

You can attach the inner and outer cable to the speedo head, chuck the bottom end of the inner cable in a drill motor, and spin it to see if the speedo head responds.

If not, new speedo needed.

It both the cable and speedo head are good, then it's the speedometer drive (I believe it's in the rear brake backing plate) is probably bad.

Remove it and inspect/replace.

How to change a speedometer cable 1988 mazda 323 sedan 1.6l?

unless the outer cable is damaged it is only necessary to change the inner cable. undo the cable nut on the gear box and if you can pull the inner cable out then do so and push the new inner cable back up the hole the same way. If you cannot pull the inner cable out then you will have to undo the cable nut on the back of the speedo and pull the cable out that way.

I have a 1988 lebaron 2 door coup 2.5 ltr and the speedometer and odometer don't work but the tachometer and gas gauge work. i think it might be the speedo cable but i would like someone to point me in the...

The first thing to do would be to remove the cable at the trany and spin the inner part of the cable and see if speedometer moves a little, if it moves then you will know the cable is good and so is the speedometer and the problem is the gear in the trany, remove the small housing that the cable screws into amnd there you will see a gear, remove the clip and slide the gear off and replace it with a new one, you should be able to seee the gear teeth worn out,but is the speedo doesnt move when you turn the cable then the cabl may be bad, slide cable out by pulling it, and look for thee broken end. hope this helps.

After replacing the heater core and reinstalling the dash the speedometer is not functioning. I tried to get the speedo cable seated as far into its sheath but I obviously must have done it wrong. Do I...

You wont access the connecting point from under the hood. The firewall is in the way. Maybe try from under the dash? Be sure youre going to pick up some cuts doing it this way. Try at the gearbox first. Disconnect the cable from the gearbox and turn the inner a couple times. If youre lucky the only part that didnt seat properly is the inner but more than likely the cable is not seated properly at the back of the speedo.

The speedometer is not working on my 1995 isuzu rodeo 2 wheel drive

I think its cable driven (not electronic) with car on flat/safe ground crawl under and remove speedo cable from rear of gear box and try to quickly turn the inner cable (both ways) while someone watches the speedo for any action, if nothing happening remove complete cable-look for break in inner cable/replace. if needle did flicker then check for worn/broken gear in speedo head/ gearbox (rare), 9 times out of 10 cable broke.

Speedometer won't come on

You almost certainly have a bad speedo cable. You could have a broken speedometer, but that is like seeing hoofprints and assuming a zebra is near. Speedo cables die all the time, and your car has a mechanical speedometer which uses a cable - like a brake or shifter cable on a bicycle, but the inner part rotates instead of moves back and forth.

Repair kits cost only a few bucks, but may or may not fix the problem.

New speedo cables should be available at your favorite local auto parts store. If not, you can remove it (or have someone remove it) and take it to a speedometer repair shop - most bigger cities have at least one.

1982 fxr inner primary what year fit

1982 and 1983 FXR inner primary housings are unique to those two years (rubber mounted motor with 5 speed tranny.) This item seems to be a bit difficult to locate. Can't find any after market inner primaries anywhere that I have looked. Mine has the top front ear broken. I will be having it tigged. If you can save yours - I would.

If you come across one at a swap meet somewhere I would grab it!

Speedometer cable

First: you unscrew the cable housing assembly from the back of the speedomiter housing.

Second: you pull the speedomiter cable from the housing.

If the cable is broken inside the housing you must unscrew the housing from the spedomiter adaptor on the front axle,. at this point you should be able to pull the broken end from the adaptor with a pair of pliersif you can't pull it at this point you will have to pull the front axle and take the adaptor out and try to remove the broken end.

I hope this helps.
