SOURCE: 1997 yz 125 wont start, please help

2 stroke bike are very dependent on compression. and being a bike that is 12 years old my best educated guess is that the top end needs to be rebuilt. i usually have to have the top end done on my honda about every three years.

  • If a hole in the piston then install new piston and rings. Next, clean the carbon off the head and install a new head gasket.
  • If cylinder wall is scared the piston has seized up. Pull the cylinder off and take it to the dealer. Have them bore the cylinder and return it along with a new oversize piston and rings.
  • While at the parts counter, get a new stock spark plug and a supply of Yamalube Two Stroke Motor Oil. You need to add 4 ounces per gallon when filling up. This will be a 32/1 gas to oil ratio. NEVER ride the bike without at least the needed 32/1 mix.
Please rate the solution as a "FixYa" if able. Thanks!

SOURCE: YZ 125 kick starter doesn't spring back

Spring is busted. If you aren't comfortable with piles of extraneous parts floating around, take it to the shop.

I mentioned a while back about how I was out riding my 99 yz 125 and the power was in and out then it made a loud grinding noise and died while I just went and got my bike and took it to my shop and...

Bound up transmission. Bad clutch maybe. After it happened, you most likely pushed it home or back onto your truck or whatever, moving the gears a bit. That would possibly unlock or free up the clutch or tranny. Don't start it again until you tear it apart. You could do more damage if you haven't already.

Check your oil for metal particles. Is your oil level correct? You may have ground the innards to death.

Put new boyosen rad valve in 1998 yz 125.i had to use die grinder to grind inside of intake of motor.will this affect the way it runs.

as long as you have kept the inside of the intake nice and smooth and got no grinding **** in the motor,if anything it should go better, there is a lot of scope for porting on 2 strokes, the factory makes the engine on an average use system,i have gotten an extra 10hp out of my nsr250r 2stroke by polishing and port work..cheap horsepower just time consuming, hope this helps

Oil is a grey colour in the engine of my yz 125 2001

Your bike is water cooled. Some of that water is leaking into the gear box. The cylinder gasket is the likely leak. I would let the shop take a look at it instead of trying to fix it yourself.

But be sure there is not an external source for the water. Do you wash the bike often? Ride the creek bed often? Leave the bike where the lawn sprinkler gets the bike wet? Leave it out in the rain? Change the oil and keep the bike dry. If the problem comes back then go see the dealer.
