Hi I am vortash it may be you have a blocked idler jet you will find this is the jet in the bowl area .. just pass a thin strand of wire through it and clean the bowl out .. if that don't cure it check the carb manifold gasket it may be letting air in .. it may be that your cable is badly adjusted most bike carbs have the adjuster on the acelarator cable as it eneters the carb ..hope this helps regards Vortash

You are on the right track with the fuel system. Maybe the fuel filter, There is one in the tank also, I think. Try running on reserve if you have it.

When a bike is run you get a small build up of rubbish in the carbs, this can block the idle jets. So a carb clean should solve your problem. Nice to see older bike still being used. Beware of mad "cagers" and keep it rubber side down.

Have you cleaned the tank, fuel can cause steel to rust, drain carbs and blow the jets out. Then make sure you change (or fit) the in line fuel filter, they are cheap and easy to replace and save problems like this.

Bike starts right up in choke take it off choke shuts off

when you rejetted, did you also change the idle jets or just the main jets? if you didn't change the idle jets, that would probably help. remember you might also want to raise the float level height just a little bit to compensate for the extra fuel going out.

Under 2000 rpm's its kind of sputtery the bike runs great idles great and drives great when im going just under 2k it sucks... carb's??? any answers anyone???

Autozone purchase can of "Sea Foam" gas treatment, pour in 1/3 can to 2 gallons fuel. now drive it 10 to 15 miles perferably on an open highway so you can get on it once in awhile and work out that sputter it took my bike 11 miles to spit out whatever was clogging it up, and be careful, because mine cleared up right in the middle off a turn.. all of the sudden about 20 extra hp kicked in. if this doesnt fix it then change the plugs and wires. Can i get a very helpful if this fixes your problem?..i sure would like to know. Thanks much!

Yamaha V-Star 1100 backfires and will not run without choke on

Here are two solutions for you:
A - Take the carberator off and soak it in some good quality carb cleaner for about 1/2 an hour.  That should take care of any residue in the carbs.
B - Alternatively (and for the less technical minded) there is a great product called Sea Foam.  Try to find it at your local CSK auto/NAPA/Wal-Mart.  Pour a small amount (maybe 1/4 ounce) into each cylinder chamber (take out the spark plugs), try to pour a small amount into the carbs (a turkey baster works great for this), and pour the rest into the gas tank.  Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then start it up.  *NOTE - the bike will start VERY hard at first until it burns through what's in the cylinders.  ALSO the fumes will be EXTREMELY strong and suffocating - make sure you do this OUTDOORS preferably, or at least in a VERY well ventilated area.
Good luck - I know how frustrating these things can be! :)
P.S. - I am a proud owner of a V-Star 1300 - great bikes! :)

Your bike has an idle screw on the carb. looking at carb its on the right side turn to the right to bring up your idle.
