In order for the brake light to come on, there must be power going to the light. This power can be getting there only two ways. Either your switch is sticking, or something is wrong in your wiring harness (incorrectly wired, chafed and shorted somewhere...)

Does the light stay on all the time, even as soon as you turn the key on? Does it go out when you disconnect either (or both) of the brake light switches?

Hand break switch was broken (inside the wire housing) not allowing the hand break lever to deactive, therefore causing the brake system to stay on.

2014 road king flhr. No brake light when useing front brake. Rear brake works fine. Cruse control not working.

Hi, Calvin when you fix your front brake light issue your cruise control will work fine so before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch.

My cruise button works & it lets me set it. Without braking, it disengages. The "possible fix" was to get a new brake light switch. It didn't fix my problem. Anybody have an ideas?? Thx. Mel

cruise controls need fully functional units to stay engaged
they include
brake sensor ,
clutch sensor ,
VSS ,
tachometer
cruise switch
if any one has a problem it will disengage
also it only works above a certain road speed or engine rpms

My back brake lights stay on my 2005 road king classic.

That will be either the front or rear switch sticking, first try unpluging the front brake light switch, with this disconected if the light stays on the problem is with the rear switch, locate the switch this will be close to the brake pedal normal spring opperated which can stick, check it is closing fully, you may also disconnect the switch and check the light goes out reconnect the front switch and check correct opperation, this would thenpoint the fault towards the rear switch

that indicator is your cruise control "not engaged". When you turn off the cruise control switch the light goes out. When you "set" your speed in cruise control the red indicator goes green. when you touch the brake to disengage "cruise" it goes red.

Cruise control will not engage even though the indicator on the Cruise on/off switch is illuminated.

Check that your brake lights are staying off. Brake light switch will put your cruise control into coast mode.

I would check the easy things first. That is the brake switch and the clutch switch (manual trans). Drive down the road and pull the brake pedal up with your foot and then try to set the cruise (same with the clutch pedal). Also the cruise requires that the brake light bulbs be in working order (and that there are no LED brake lights). Check fuse numbers 53 54 and 59.
The high beam problem might be related to the cruise issue, but I can't think of a reason why.
