Brian's suggestion sounds good. If you bought this bike new and it has done this since day one, then it's possible (but quite unlikely) that the manufacturer put the wrong oil in the engine/transmission and it's too thin to do its job. If you bought it used, I would say that the clutch is going bad.

Start bike, while sitting still put it in 3rd or 4th gear . WHILE KEEPING PRESSURE ON THE REAR BRAKE, SLOWLY let out the clutch with a little throttle, if the bike does not stall out the clutch is bad.

Struggeling so switch gears on high revs

You could have either have the clutch not adjusted correctly or you could have glazing on the clutch discs or both. I would check for glazing on the clutch pack.If they seem glazed rub them on the cement a few times. The concrete will not harm anything but it will clear the glazing off of the clutch pack.

My bike rides fine but when you get to 4th gear it slows down to 40 and in 5th to 30 and slower its also is a nightmare to start any ideas

Carbs should be left alone apart for basics in revs. I would up the tick over too, 2000rpm,air filters, add k+n or like,to improve breathing+add some fuel booster, cleaner,is it running too rich or lean?smell the exhaust fumes that will tell you.check breather pipes, filters, are they blocked?Sounds like it is a major carb tune or gear ratios have been altered, highly unlikeley!!Sounds like BREATHING to me!!! Float chambers+valves in the carb is highly possible. What bike is it and how old will give me more ideas. Cheers simon.

How do i on a motorcycle go to first gear from 5th

hi, if when you start your bike you press the gear lever down to go to 1st from neutral and then pull it back up to go to 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th then the only way to get back into first gear is to press the gear lever down 4 times to get it back into 1st gear their is no quicker way to do this you have to work your way back down the gears.

if your coming to a stop quick then just pull the clutch in and keep pushing the lever down until it dont push down any further it will only go down 1 gear at a time so you will need to push it down 4 times but you dont need to count you can just keep pressing it down the gears until it dont go down any more then you know this is first, you need to keep the clutch in when doing this.

how ever if your slowing down is more gradual then what you can do is go from 5th down to 4th then let engine slow the bike down then when the revs drop down change down to 3rd and so on until you get ot 1st gear.

if your coming to a stop quick say at lights or junction then if the bike is in 5th gear then you can change down the gears once the bike has stopped just hold the clutch in when you stop and keep tapping the gear lever down until you feel that its not going down any more gears this way you know its in 1st without having to cound down the gears, their id no quicker way of going down the gears to get to 1st.

i hope i have read your question right and gave you the answer you was looking for if i got the question wrong then please explain then i can assist you further ok

1992 GMC Suburban not shifting into OD, Transmission Modulator?

The shift down linkage on the carburetor below the gas pedal cable might need to be adjusted to increase the hydraulic pressure on the internal clutch plates in the transmission it shows you how to do that in a car manual.

Noisy 5th gear

but no there was definitely a loud whirring noise in 5th gear sort of like a very noisy bearing. The bike still ran in 5th but it was definately becomming increasingly noisy. When I changed down to 4th the noise went away even if I slowed to the rev range I had been cruising in 5th. Same story with the other gears, but the noise returned with a vengence in 5th. Needless to say I rode the rest of the way home in avoiding 5th. Any ideas? I suppose I'm looking at a gearbox strip? Could the noise be anything else? ,Had a similar issue with my 1000S, only 5th gear was noisy - a sound like a dry bearing -other gears were silent. Bike had done 70,000kms and serviced correctly. Had Barry from IME check it out. Turned out to be both 5th gears needed replacing - looked like the case hardening on the gear faces was eroding and pitting. New gears went in and the box properly shimmed and happy to say 6000 kms later all still silent in the gearbox department. Plus the added benefit of slicker gear changes.,,,
