Starter draging dragging starter on 1991 chevy blazzer just put new starter and battery new, but still wont crank over like its got a low battery

Either you have a voltage drop to the starter, OR the starter needs to be shimmed as it might be to tight against the Ring Gear when engaging.

Fusible Links

The engine compartment wiring harness has several fusible links. The same size wire with a special hypalon insulation must be used when replacing a fusible link.
The links are located in the following areas:

  1. A molded splice at the starter solenoid Bat terminal, a 14 gauge red wire.
  2. A 16 gauge red fusible link at the junction block to protect the unfused wiring of 12 gauge or larger wire. This link stops at the bulkhead connector.
  3. The alternator warning light and field circuitry is protected by a 20 gauge red wire fusible link used in the battery feed to voltage regular #3 terminal. The link is installed as a molded splice in the circuit at the junction block.
  4. The ammeter circuit is protected by two 20 gauge fusible links installed as molded splices in the circuit at the junction block and battery to starter circuit.
Other things it MIGHT be are the ignition switch, located on top of the steering column:

The other thing it MIGHT be is a faulty ignition cylinder (where your key goes into to start the K10).

Check the wire harness on the steering column also.

I had the same problem and replaced the Dist. cap and rotor it had moisture in it and was corroded.
once replaced had no problems.

Do the dash lites come on when you turn the key on? Are you saying the starter doesn't crank?

I'd have to be sure the battery has a full charge and battery connections all clean and tight.

The starter has two voltage circuits, one is hot all the time, the other circuit, sometimes called the starter s terminal, goes hot with the key in the crank position and is wired through neutral switch, if auto tranny. Did you try cranking it in neutral?

If the truck cranks over you have voltage at the ignition switch ! From starter to switch , First off starter to what switch ,ignition ? There is a 175amp fuse that supply's battery voltage to the power distribution center - fuse box under the hood . On the lower right side of the radiator support, below the battery !

Check the battery. If the battery is good, check for power to the starter. If you have power to the starter, but it won't crank over, you might have a bad starter. You can try whacking it a few times with a hammer to try and shift the armature. If that lets it crank over, you have a bad starter.

Possible bad oil pump, sorry!. Or maybe bad cam bearings, sorry again. But try a new oil sending unit.

1992 chevy 1500 spinning motor , not cranking. New coil..under cap looks clean..no scarring from arching..spark off plugs..gas coming in..if battery is low enuff to turn motor would that also keep it from...
If you mean just a spinning noise you'll need a new starter but clean the battery connections first with a steel brush. poor or loose connection cause the intermittent problem with click,click crank.

Car sounds like it wont turn over completely
check if your battery has 12.6 volts and over if the battery is less then you have to recharge your battery if you have the 12.6 V with a multimeter on turn the engine and check how low the volt meter go's if the volts go low then 8 volts the battery needs replacing if the battery go's down 10 volts and the starter drags then it could be you starter if you put in a new battery and your sure it's fully charged then it could be your starter I hope this information is helpful good luck

first thing to do is check and see if you have a dead battery one easy way to do this is turn your headlights on and have somebody watch them as you try to crank the car, if they dim then you need to try charging you battery or replacing it if your headlights do not dim then most likely your starter motor has locked up or gone bad meaning you will need a new starter
