The idle screw and the air screw > > Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward.

Hello, It's been a long time since I have adjusted a Quadra Jet. Start the engine and bring it up to running temperature. Make sure the choke is fully off. At idle , turn the right hand idle mixture screw in until you hear or feel the engine start to miss. Back out the idle mixture screw 1/4 turn. Repeat procedure for the left hand idle mixture screw. Adjust idle speed screw to 800 RPM for auto trans in gear or 700 rpm manual trans in neutral.

I have an mgb roadster and it won't run unless the choke is on suggesting fuel deprivation. Has anyone got any suggestions?


Have you been adjusting the slow running screw and fuel screw if this is the case, turn the mixture screw from the full in position then do half a turn at a time until the engine runs in sort of order gradually after a minute or so, gradually try to turn the choke off till it's fully off and at the same time turn the mixture screw half a turn till it runs with the choke completely off and the tick over is holding,
when you have that situation let the engine warm up after it's run a bit gently turn the mixture screw in until it just it's just starting to hunt then turn it back again until the hunting as just disappeared this is the correct running mixture you can turn it a little further to make it leaner if you require, now set the tick over to your liking.

Turn the High mixture screw out 1 1/4 turns from fully seated position.
Turn the Low muxture screw out 1 1/2 turns from fully seated position.
Make sure that your fuel mix is 50:1 and that your Air Cleaner and Spark plug are clean.
If your Stihl is still not running correctly, clean your exhaust screen and muffler thoroughly as this can cause performance issues if not clean.

How to stop saw from bogging


Two things. First, is the chain dull? Second, if it develops a "throaty" sounds when you're cutting instead of the "crisp" sound you normally get from a chainsaw or weedwhacker or dirtbike... then the carburetor's running rich - it's "four-stroking". Try fiddling with the two mixture adjustment screws; one should be for idle mixture, the other for high-speed mixture. Get the saw idling and turn one of those screws clockwise ONE-QUARTER TURN. If the saw's idle doesn't change, turn that screw one more quarter-turn. if the saw's idle still doesn't change, thats the high-speed mixture screw.

If the saw's idle changes while you're doing that, then you're on the idle-mixture screw - return it to exactly where it was and adjust the OTHER screw clockwise a quarter-turn. Now try cutting - see if you've improved the saw's performance. If it's still four-stroking, try another quarter-turn.

If you go too far, the saw won't want to run at all at higher speeds... so you'd need to back up the screw the other way. Run it at the richest (most counterclockwise) position where it doesn't four-stroke under load.

Ajust idle on 2002 FXDL


Hi Anonymous, on the right hand side of the carburator there is an idle adjusting screw with a spring behind it, turn screw clockwise to increase idle counter clockwise to decrease idle. There is also an air/fuel mixture screw inside a carb body lug that may or may not be plugged with an aluminum cap that's about 3/16" thick. This cap can be drilled out to acess the air/fuel mixture screw. Turning screw clockwise will lean out mixture and lower idle, turning screw counter clockwise will richen mixture and raise idle. You need to balance the two adjusting screws to obtain an idle of 950-1000 RPM then back out air/fuel mixture screw 1/4 turn, snap throttle to confirm responce, you may continue to back out air/fuel mixture screw untill desired throttle responce is achieved, if you see black smoke coming out of exhaust you have gone to far and need to turn screw back in 1/8 turn at a time. How to adjust the air/mixture screw on a 25-4cc RYOBI blower vacuum


I start with the screw about 1 1/2 turns out from fully seated (turned all the way in) but be careful when turning it all the way in not to turn it too hard as you can damage the end of the mixture screw. This should get you close enough to fine tune it.

I changed my dead battery on 05 night train....starts fine and seems to run good for about 15 minutes....then wants to die with very low idle at a stop..or slowing down
