Question about 1984 Honda VF 1100 Sabre

1 Answer

1985 honda v65 sabre has speedo needle stuck on 35 and will not move.Electrical speedo, recieves signal from pickup at speedo gear on front wheel.(volts or ohms go back to speedo from speed sensor, but don't know which to look for) wiring and fuse ok,speedo sensor stuck,wd40 shot in it and it turned more freely. Haven't yet taken apart speedo, and the speed sensor at the wheel is a sealed unit that can't be opened.was a car and motorcycle mechanic for 11 years, but since I don't know what wires do what,I can't diagnose the electrical side of this problem...any help? ps drive gear on wheel turns, speed sensor turns, connectors good, fuses good, wiring good.tried spinning sensor, nothing happens. speedo or sensor problem?

Check for bad fuse holder spring contacts. Loss of power to speedo or sensor will cause this problem as V65 Sabre uses stepper motor for speedo.

Speedometer not working on My 1985 V65 Magna.... need speedo internally repaired is it possible

There are various speedo repair services that you can find by doing a Google search. They can be repaired but the cost of repair may be much higher than buying a good used replacement off of eBay, your magna forum's buy/sell page, or a reputable motorcycle dismantler.

Tachometer works but speedometer does not. Just recently happened following a drenching in a rain storm

Take off your front wheel and make sure the speedo cable is positioned well. Try turning the speedo connector. If too easy, you may have broken the cable. Check Cleveland.craigslist.org, a guy in Cleveland deals exclusively in Honda V65s used parts if your cable is trashed. He posts once a week or so.

I have a 1985 vf 1100 sabre, the left hand switch assembly is missing the high/low beam selector switch and turn signal switch... the part is discontinued and I cannot find a spare anywhere. My question...

You can take any switch off of any bike as long as it has the things you need on it. If you open the switch , you can see which colored wires go where. You can double check with a voltage meter. I have rewired switches in the past and used the connectors of of the old switch so everything matched up color wise, plug-in wise, etc. That way if you have to take it off you do not have to figure out what color does what all over again. I have three old Goldwings none of which have the original switches on them.

Hi, hy speedometer on my honda v65 just stop

If it's an old V65 then the Speedo has a cable and they can come loose and not be making contact properly. Check the back of the speedo first and see if the cable is still there and if it's loose. If not the cable broke this can happen if not lubricated regular enough.
To test take the cable off the speedo adn prop the front wheel off the ground ( I do this buy using the center stand and then holding the back end down by pushing it down and tieing it here to a fence or bench or whatever) then spin the front wheel fast and see if the cable end which goes into the speedo turns at all if it's spuratic or not existent then replace the cable.
