    Thanks for your help

Valve timming looks OK all the marks are in the correct position.

The ignition timming has the correct impedances; but i don´t know how to stablish if this timming is correct... I could buy a CDI for 160 euros and check if you are sure that this is the problem.

Thanks for your help and advise,

    Jose Luis

Hi Jose ,
It seems the timming may not be correct thus the back-fire.
Please check the ignition timming and valve timming too .

Hope this helps

    Hi Jose,

    To check the igntion timming:-

Remove the spark plugs and the valve cover, bring the piston to the TDC, you can insert something say a screw driver through the spark plug hole to check if the piston is @ TDC, check the valve to tht cylinder if they are both closed i.e. inlet & exhaust, at this stage the cylinder is on firing stroke, you should have sparks here, connect tht plug wire to the spark plug you openned making sure you earth it.

Sparks have to be a little earlier some degrees BTDC, probabley your bike's may be a little late thus the ****** in igntion timming and thus the back fire.

    Hope this helps!

Gilera 50 Front Runner will not turn over

Hi, Luke before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.

My electric start wont work

could be weak battery or bad terminals, on the solonoid cross the 2 bolts, careful it will spak does that turn the starter, if so then its a corroded connect check all connections remebering the battery earth to engine. to check battery your need a volt meter, it should read 12.8v or more any less and the solenoid will just click

Hi i have a gilera nordwest 600C 1993-1994 It will only start from a bump start. I have replaced, spark plugs, cleaned carbs, overhawled the starter, replaced battery however not fiddled with the clutch on...

Sounds like the starter clutch is sticking on thereby stopping the engine from rotating fast enough

Good Luck
Hope this helps.

Gilera vxr 180 starts when battery connected without pressing start button.then starter will not disingage once running

have a look at the starter switch it mat be stuck in or there is a short in it holding the starter on, it could also be a relay stuck on, if its a relay change it, running the engine with the starter still engaged will reck it

Hi,
I have a gilera RC 600 which has the same engine as the nordwest, the problem could be the carb needs to be stripped and cleaned and replace the foam air filter with a paper one. For accurate advice and spares which are quickly posted, contact BOB WRIGHT at 0044193451033. He is the official UK gilera specialist, tell him I sent you, say the guy in southern Ireland, and he will look after you. Good Luck.

My gilera runner has nt got a spark i have changed the magneto flywheel spark plug but still no spark what could it be?

Check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the side stand switch and coupler. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it. Check the fuses. How good is the battery? Try a jump start from your car battery. Is the handlebar kill switch on? Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter.
