Question about 2003 Yamaha Road Star Silverado

1 Answer

I have a 2003 roadstar. It started right away after sitting all winter. I rode for about 1 hour until old gas was gone enough to make light come on. I then filled up with new gas and rode for another hour. Ran normal. I parked for a week. It started up normal but didnt seem just right when warming up. I always warm up untill I have immediate responce on the throttle. This time it wanted to die, as soon as throttle was touched. I tried taking off with the chock open part way. But i could not keep it running. I let it sit there at idle. After 10 minutes it died. I didnt have time so it sat another week. Now It starts, but will not run more than a few seconds. I took off the air cleaner and blew compressed air backwards through it to clean as best as I could. This did not help. I removed the fuel line at the filter and had great flow. I bypassed the filter and ran line directly to the pump. This did not help. The bike starts, and runs for 1 to 2 seconds and dies. Choking does not help now either. The bike has had no problems. Whatever it is, it happend while being parked. Please email to

Thank you. Do you think I should pull the fuel line and drain the tank completly and start over with fresh fuel? And seafoam?

Either the carb will need to be removed and thouroughly cleaned, or there is water condensation in the tank. I suggest a can of seafoam or equivelant.

You can, but the seafoam or isopropyl should remove the water that is in the gas already. So I do not believe it is necessary to remove the gas.
Also, I recommend to anyone that is going to store a motor throughout the season to buy a bottle of "stable" and put in tank before storing. The stable keeps water, condensation out of gas tank and lines and also keeps carberators clean and gum free throughout the storage.

How much warm up time does a dodge sprinter 2500 diesiel require in the winter time?

At idle it can take hours to fully warm up

If your concerned about driving it right away after starting, not a big issue.....start, let it warm a min or two then drive.

Diesels warm slower than gas engines, and they take longer to get warm enough to give you heat untill fully warmed up.

Normally you should see good temp and good heat after driving about 15 minutes after the first cold start of the day.

Car won't start

You may have a fuel pump issue, or as you mentioned a fuel problem due to water or old gas, check the pressure at the fuel rail that goes to the injectors, there is a service port there, also take a sample of the gas and let it stand to see if any water is present, smell the gas, bad gas smells like paint thinner.
