Hello Simon...Check to see if the cooling fans are operational and are cycleing properly...not sure what the exact kick in temp. is on the 2000 model, but on the 98's it was around 104. The thermostat could be trying to stick and not fully opening...The cooling system was designed for optimal cooling with low air pressure flow. Check the cooling fins on both radiators for any dirt, bugs or debris that could be constricting air flow....and of course...coolant level.
Hope this helps...good luck.

When stopped at a stop light my oil gauge goes down and my temperature gauge goes up on my 94 Chevy 1500 truck. I just changed the oil yesterday? What could it be?

Both issues could be normal to a degree. The engine temp would go up some when the truck stops moving, and the oil pressure would go down some when the engine returns to idle.
Are the two gauges reading out of normal range ?

I have a 2000 John Deere 990. The fuel gauge and temp gauge only work part time but always together.Any ideas?

I have owned a 990 since new. 2001. The fuel gauge started to act similar to what you described for a few years. Recently the temp gauge was also doing the same thing. I finally decided to chase the problem. Bought a PDF file of John Deere manual. The fuel and temp gauges share a common ground. I tool the hood and panels off that allow getting behind the instrument panel. ps, you don't need to pull the steering wheel. NOTE, disconnect the battery before you dive into it. I disconnected and cleaned ALL of the plug connectors with spray contact cleaner. Put it back together. The fuel gauge comes to life instantly. The temp is slow, but that looked normal, and worked. Then today the temp stopped working mid way thru an hour of using the tractor. After a palm slap to the side of the instrument panel the temp gauge instantly came to life. So there is also a issue with the gauge itself. I am going to assume that the gauge needle is stuck. so maybe some cleaner and lube in the gauge itself will solve the second half of the problem.

My temperature gauge on my bike goes straight to hot when i turn the key even if i havent rode it

THE TEMP GAUGE WORKS ON A LIVE FEED, TO THE GAUGE, WHEN THE COOLING SYSTEM GETS HOT THE GAUGE RECIEVES A SIGNAL FROM THE TEMP SWITCH WHICH IS ON THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON THIS MACHINE, ON THE RH SIDE OF THE BIKE UNDER THE INFILL BELOW THE RH HANDLEBAR, THE MOST OBVIOUSE REASON FOR THIS FAULT IS THAT THE WIRE HAS COME OF THE UNIT AND IS TOUCHING THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING, THUS MAKING AN EARTH, OR EVEN IT MAY HAVE BECOME HOT BURNING THE WIRE INSULATION AND IS JUST EARTHING OUT, WITH THE KEY TURNED ON REMOVE THE WIRE FROM THE TEMP SWITCH AND THE GAUGE SHOULD THEN DROP BACK DOWN, IF WHEN YOU REMOVE THIS WIRE THE GAUGE STAYS UNAFECTED THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE SAME WIRE BUT HIGHER UP THE LOOM, IF ALL ELSS FAILS YOU COULD REPLACE THE WIRE EXTERNALY LEAVING THE OLD WIRE DISCONECTED TO SEE IF IT WORKS THIS WILL ELIMENATE THE GAUGE BEING FAULTY, HOPE I HAVENT GONE ON TO MUCH, SIMPLE CHECK

94 escort over heating

Electric fan could be bad or a blown fuse or relay for the fan causing it to not work.

You can take you fan off and take it to an advance or napa or auto zone and get the to check it out.

But check the fuse and relay and make sure they are not blown relay may be under hood
