SOURCE: How to wire a tach on 05 heritage softail

Locate & route Black lead to ground / 2004-later softail: On the frame strap under the seat directly in front of the battery.

Locate & route the pink lead to Signal / For 2004 & later FXST/C/I The #3 cavity in the connector {39b} on the back of the speedometer. The socket terminal on the signal (pk) lead fits the #3 cavity.

Locate & route the Orange and white lead to power / Ummm.. it's saying for 2004 and later to adapt to the fuse block For earlier [ For 1996 to 2003 softail: locate the power lead (o/w) in the tail lamp pin connector {7a} under the seat behind the right rear corner of he battery.] "here you are looking to run it to a fused line, not directly to power/battery" I hope this helped.

SOURCE: which post is which on generator on a 1975 sportster?

the post should be the same as an original. The wires should be green and tan. Green wire goes to the post towards the front wheel and the tan to the post nearest the engine. Don't forget to "polarize" the generator before starting. procedure is in the service manual. Momentarily short between the battery positive post and the field terminal.

SOURCE: connecting wire from regulator

The large wire from the voltage regulator goes to the Positive side of the battery. As an alternative, you can also connect it to the starter where the large cable comes from the battery positive terminal to the starter. I think that's where most Softail models have the regulator wire connected.

If you connect it to the starter, all this does it make it a bit easier to connect since the battery is inside the horseshoe type oil tank. Basically, you are using the battery cable as an extension cord to the battery to keep from having to fish the wire up to the battery.

SOURCE: are the two wires coming out of our power

The voltage coming out of your alternator is AC voltage and has no polarity like Direct Current does. Therefore no positive and negative. Two of the wires should be formed into a plug or they'll be smaller and shorter than the other wire. These connect to the connection at the engine case. The larger gauge longer wire goes directly to the battery positive terminal.

SOURCE: where does the lead wire for the voltage regulator

There should be a total of three wires. There are a pair of smaller wires that connect to the alternator and a longer, heavier gauge wire that goes directly to the positive post of the battery. I've seen some people take this heavier lead and attach it directly to the starter as well, It's the same a connecting it to the battery positive post when you do it that way.

Good Luck
Steve

How do I trouble shoot a 25hp Mercury ELP four stroke that is not charging the battery. It is a 2001 year model.

Ahhh Mercury electrical... always a problem. The charging system on a mercury is really simple. You should have 2 yellow wires coming from the under the flywheel and possibly a black one running with them. These are high voltage a/c. They run to the rectifier/regulator which converts the a/c to d/c and sets the voltage to around 14 volts. To test the charging circuit, disconnect the yellow wires from the rectifier/regulator, *CAUTION HIGH VOLTAGE!* hook up a meter, set to read a/c volts to the two yellow wires and crank the engine, be careful not to touch the wire ends while doing this, it could be a shocking experience. You are just looking for any voltage above 12 volt a/c. If you start the engine during this test you could see upward of 100 volts. If this test fails replace the charging coil under the flywheel, it the one with the yellow wires that you just tested. Chances are this test passed with flying colors. So plug it back in and test the rectifier/regulator. Disconnect the red wire(s) and set your meter to read > 12 d/c volts, there may be 2 red wires. Start the engine and test from the red wire(s) to engine ground, you should see >12vdc. 99.9% of the time this test fails. So replace the rectifier/regulator. It is the weakest link. They will fail for something as simple as a loose or corroded battery terminal.

Wiring diagram for voltage regulator: how to wire the 5 cables not in a row? we know the 3 yellow are aligned together under the other 2. where do we plug the red and the black? thanks for the help!

Hi, the yellows all come from the alternator, you can connect these in any order to each other, the red wire from the rectifier can be connected directly to the battery, and the black is the earth wire and can be connected to a good ground.

I have a jvc kdavx1 trying to hook up to a 2000 buick reagal need to know how the wires hook up

Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

2000 Buick Regal Car Stereo Install Diagram jvc kdavx1
Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Orange yellow
Radio Ignition Switched 12V+ Wire: Yellow red
Radio Ground Wire: Black/White black
Radio Illumination Wire: Gray/Black orange/white
Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Tan white
Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray white/black
Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Light Green gray
Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Dark Green gray/black
Left Rear Speaker Wire (+): Brown green
Left Rear Speaker Wire (-): Yellow green/black
Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Dark Blue purple
Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): Light Blue purple/black
parking brake: blue light green

For this last wire, access the back of the parking brake to find a switch with a blue wire. Peel some insulation from the wire and wrap the stripped end of a 3 foot piece of 16 or 18 gauge wire around the stripped section. Solder and wrap the connection with electrical tape, route the wire to the jvc, then strip and solder the other end to the pigtail of the head unit.

If you are also installing a camera seeing behind you when backing, you will need to run a wire to the back-up light on the driver side reverse light (light green) wire along with your video cable.

White is usually always power FROM the S (Starter) terminal of the Key switch to the clutch pedal switch then on to the start solenoid. For briggs and stratton key switch terminal 4 is used for starter power. The model number you passed is for the engine only.

Without your riding mower model number I can not even begin to guess for sure. If you can locate the mower model number I will look it if and see what I can find.

Tri-circuit Diode Wire

Green Connector

with 2 diodes leading to 1 Red Wire and

1 White Wire

Red Wire = 2-5 Amp DC unregulated for

battery charge
White Wire = 2-5 Amp DC negative for lights

This is the usual wiring off of the QUAD regulator.

Yellow Connector 2 Yellow Wires

White Connector

Black Wire = 8 Amp DC unregulated for lights

Red Wire = 8 Amp DC regulated for battery

Small magnets Quad Circuit
20 Volts AC @ stator

I really need an explantion of where your trying to connect to and from. I am thinking your connecting from the engine alternator. IF you replaced the alternator... depending on which alternator you purchased there is a modification that has to be done to wiring harness of the alternator to the regulator.

Have electri heater. put in new honeywell thermastat programmable. did not hook up jumper wire like it said. now ac will not come on. if hook jumper wire, then both ac and heater comes on. whats the...

From end to end you have to put the red to red (24vac in), white to white (Furnace on wire), Black to common (24vac common), green to green (Fan On), yellow to yellow (AC On) and the jumper link back on. Also when you hook up the AC the two wires go, one on common (black) and the other on Yellow.
Looks like somehow you are picking up the AC & heater at the same time. If you need more info e-mail me at [email protected]
