Go to rear of car and wiggle, pull, push on the cables that go into the rear brakes. Sometimes this is all that needs to be done to release the brakes, then I suggest lubricate the brake cables, and/or inspect rear brakes. If this don't help, you could try to use some warm water and pour it over your brake drums, as snow and ice can freeze them up. Try a hairblower if its below freezing. If your brakes are not locked up, make sure your pedal return spring is working properly, sometimes its on the pedal, but most times its under car attached to the cables somewhere.

SOURCE: Merecedes C270 - the foot operated parking brake,

Hi :)
Very common problem do loads. You need to lubricate the handbrake linkage under the rear seats ( the bit ur bum goes on). If you have a estate car then the seats will flip up but if its a saloon car then you will have to remove 2 13mm nuts for either side seat. When ur under there, u will see a little black panel in the middle, remove it 2 8mm self tappers and a 13mm nut. right you should now see the linkage where the cable splits to either side of the car. Get a load of wd-40 and spray whilst some else operates the handbrake 100 times or so. sorted! Dont forget to adjust the handbrake at the wheels after, go all the way with the adjust and back off two clicks either side.
Hope this works and good luck1

SOURCE: emergency brake locked after pull release handle

handbrake jammed on somewhere ,could be front cable ,because the rear cable is pulled by the compensator so if it was the rear one then i would expect only one cable siezed and that is normally the kerbside one.

SOURCE: My parking brake on a 2000 S-10 Blazer will not

you need to inspect the cables for binding and it checks good then your cables might be pulled out or the actuator at pedal is stuck most GM come a release at assembly ,you may have feel around for it by the actuator just above the pedal .

Testimonial: "Finding the accutuator helped me to release the brake. I will need to disassemble the release as it appears there is another problem. Thank you!"

SOURCE: my 2004 gmc sierra z71 truck the emergency brake

You could have a sticking cable to one of the rear brakes. Need to inspect it from below. If you do a lot of off-roading the cable may only need lubricated.

Can u define hand brake

Hi Mathew:
"hand brake" is just another way to say "parking brake".
Used to be common that the parking brake was applied by hand and was a lever (example TR sports car) or a pull handle.
Most modern vehicles now have a foot pedal that you depress and then release by using your hand to pull a small lever.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Manuel Parking brake release the parking brake is stuck and we are trying to get it released how do you do it?

Foot Park Brake...
There should be a release lever(not the main release) up at the top of the park brake arm, under the dash. Its small, 1.5 to 2 inches long. I recommend using a screwdriver to "flip It", keeping your fingers and hand and your face for that matter, away from the arm. It is spring loaded and will release/move very fast. Also it could just be that someone unitentionally stepped on the pedal really hard, and it will take the same amount of foot pressure to release it while pulling on the release handle.

Hand Park Brake...
Again the same principle applies. It will take the same pressure applied to release it. Push in ******* the release while pulling up ******* the handle. This one can also be released by using a screwdriver to pop the the locking tab.

Where i can find the hand brake

There is no hand brake. It is foot operated. The pedal will be on the driver side kick panel, and the release handle is under the dash in the same area.

Hello all, this happend to my 2002 taboe as well. There is a handle under the dash below the steering column. The handle is conected via a cable to the parking brake foot mechanism. This cable is known to break. This part is available online through numerous websites for roughly 17-25 dollars, ebay has it but it goes for roughly 35 dollars. It is very easy to install with a pair of pliers and a wrench. The cable is about a foot long and comes with the release lever already installed.
