Oil is good in it. It runs good but if you try to take it up a hill it seems to starve itself of fuel and cuts off. When it fires up once and a while it gives a black puff of smoke then its fine. But when you go up an incline it dies out.

Update the power commander software and check the two O2 sensors, that are located on the exhaust. The Oxygen sensors and their wiring can be tested with a multimeter .
If problem happened suddenly after a ride , it is probably a lose wiring to one of the O2 sensors.

Do not forget to leave feedback afterward.

Thanks.

G.

I have been riding and working on Japanese bikes for 35 years and have had this problem many times, here is what I have found, the fuel metering and air bleed jests in the carbs of these engines are tiny, it only takes a tiny speck of dirt or metal not removed from the manufacturing process of the carbs to cause these problems, every time I have pulled the carbs off and have taken them apart I have found either tiny specks of metal or dirt in the carb bowl, they sit there and when engine load is just right they get sucked into a jet and u have the condition you are experiencing, take the carb off and clean them with compressed dry air, I have never failed to cure the problem by doing this.

Run some carburetor cleaner through the system to remove any dirt which may be interfering with the carb diapharms............Let idle for 15 to 20 min before trying acceleration.........Hope this helps you out.

I can only start my 2003 Honda Shadow with the choke out and is difficult to keep it running, once I let off the choke the bike dies out. It has been in storage for over a year.

The carb needs to be cleaned as it has build up inside, This cannot be done without removing the carb and taking it apart to clean out all the small holes.
