K so now i know the catalitic convertor, the spark plugs and coil, the distributor, the fuel pump, and injectors are all good. when im driving it after a bit it starts acting like it wants to die when i...

Hi Dustin, Any relationship to Hofman? Have the fuel filter replaced and the fuel pump pressure tested. If the catalytic converter becomes blocked it can also restrict engine performance, so much so it can stop the engine from starting. Regards John

I have a 2005XL 1200. After riding about 15miles, the bike bogs down after I stop and try to accelerate. At 70mph and up it's ok. At the low end it wants to die. I have to keep it accelerating

Hi Francisco, if you have a carburator the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system (gas cap).
2. Inlet system air leak.
3. Vacuum piston malfunction.
4. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
5. Plugged bowl vent.
6. Fuel level (float chamber) too low.
7. Restriccted fuel supply passages.
8. Plugged jets or passages.
9. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
10. Enrichner valve not seated or leaking.
Good luck

Im trying to find out were the 2 ball berrings and little spring go in the carb, on an s.s 0n my 72 iron head sporty

They go in the accelerator pump on the bottom of the float bowl. These are the check valves. Turn the float bowl upside down. There should be two screws left in the accelerator pump plate (one of them holds the float bowl to the carb body). Remove these two screws. Underneath this plate, you'll find a diaphragm and a large spring. Over towards the float bowl drain plug, you'll see two hole. One hole is deeper than the other. The deep hole is closest to the drain plug, drop the small spring into this hole and place one ball on top of it. Put the other ball in the other hole. Now, lay the diaphragm on float bowl over the accelerator pump well in the float bowl. Put the large spring on top of the accelerator pump diaphragm and place the plate over it. Work the plate around to seat the diaphragm in it's groove and install the two screws.

For a better view of what you're going, go to S&S's website. Click on "Tech Info", click on "installation instructions", and select "fuel systems". Look of instruction sheet #51-1012, installation instructions for E & G "shorty" carburetors. Download or print out the instructions which will include a complete parts breakdown, tuning instructions, everything you ever wanted to know about an S&S carb but were afraid to ask.

Ran fine the other day, today i try starting it and itt turns over but then puts out, the accelerator hardly affects the running of the bike, i have to constantly twist the accelerator to keep bike...

You've either got some kind of contaminate in the float bowl or the jets are stopped up on your bike. If it runs as long as you keep twisting the throttle, it's run off the fuel from the accelerator pump. No fuel is getting through the jets. I'd take the fuel line loose and check the fuel flow. If your bike was made after 1996, you'll need a vacuum source to check the petcock as it is vacuum operated. I'd take the carb off and have it gone through as well. Check the vacuum hose that runs from the rear of the carb over to the VOES and the backside of the fuel petcock.
Good Luck

I only have heat when accelerating, im told it could be the thermostat or water pump, where is the water pump located and is it fairly easy to do yourself

If your car is running hot it could be the water pump.. Is the fan blower blowing? If no check relay and fuse. If yes . Check water make sure it is full, thermostsat could be bad , last of all heater core is bad.Good Luck!!!

95 summit 1.8. No acceleration

Could be the fuel pump.My truck did this once.It would start right up and it would go as long as I didnt touch the gas pedal. When i hit the gas it would sputter and try to shut off untill I let off the gas. Some little shops might do a fuel pressure test cheap. If you think the the fuel is ok all you do is start replacing the stuff.Could be anything plugs, wires, coil, cap or rotor. If you have the money its good to replace that stuff anyway.Im sure its the pump though let me know.Good luck.
