If the mirror housing is loose and nothing has hit it and broken the mounting to the door frame, yes. If it is the glass part that is loose and it is a electric or manual mirror, something has damaged it behind the glass replacing it will fix problem.

SOURCE: 02 Lincoln Driver Side Mirror Loose, How To Tighten

There is a soft metal backing on the mirror mount that is bent out of shape - in order to get it right you must remove the door panel. Once the door panel is off you will be able to see the three mounting bolts for the mirror - remove them, once removed you will be able to take it off to straiten the metal

SOURCE: I havbe a 1997 town car signature series that the

They make the mirrors with several styles of fasteners. Usually there is a screw "plug" called a set screw. This usually has a Hex shaped recess in the part and you simply insert a Hex key and lightly snug the set screw by turning it clockwise like most screws you would be tightening.

The reason I said "lightly" is that the part that is on the windshield is glued on. They are forever coming detached from the windshield. So reefing on the set screw will probably cause the glue to fail. It is better to have to tighten the mirror several times a year than to have to get a glue kit and remount the base to the windshield.

There is also a mount which depends on a spring tab beneath the mirror to lock the assembly in place. If you have this type of mount, it is not adjustable. But you might be able to put a drop of glue on the surface seam to take out the rattle and the mirror should no longer vibrate.

I hope my info helps you.

A lose rear veiw mirror 99 s10

If its the windshield mirror, gm usually uses a phillips or torx head screw to tighten the mirror to the base, which is glued to the glass with a special adhesive. If the screw is tight and it's the mirror joints that are loose, replace the mirror. If it's the door mirror, the inner trim on the door needs to be removed to tighten the mounting bolts. If the outside foldaway joint is loose, you will probably need to replace the complete mirror.

Usually the mirror is 'glued' to the moving parts of the inside. Most of the time one will need to remove the mirror and re-glue it back.

The passenger mirror on my 2003 Toyota 4 Runner wobbles. How can I tighten down the mirror on the base?

With my 4 runner, I had the same problem. All I needed to do was use a phillips head screw driver and tighten up a screw that is underneath the mirror housing. i.e. there is a screw hole on under side of the hosing for the mirror. Find that hole and tighten (it may seem tight already, but just give it a little bit more torque and see if that helps)

The glass in the driver side rear view mirror is loose. how do you tighten it up?

The driver and passenger side mirrors have a small rubber plug in the bottom center of the mirror housing. Remove the plug and there is a phillips head screw holding the mirror assembly. Tighten this screw about 1/8 turn and it will keep the mirror from moving around. If you remove the screw you can remove the mirror and drive motors. Use a bit of thread-lock to keep the screw from loosing again. Reinstall the rubber plug.

Rearview Mirror looseness

Note: You may want to remove the mirror from the windshield first to make the following steps easier. It's not necessary, but it's up to you. If so, pry off the plastic cover at the top of the mirror stalk, disconnect the power cord, and then pull the mirror downwards and parallel to the windshield to remove it.

Method 1: On the back side of the mirror below the ball joint, there is a small round cover. Insert a sharp blade tip at the top of the cover and carefully pry it out. Underneath is the tip of the tension screw. It has a slot in the end of it that can be tightened with a small flat-blade screwdriver. Carefully replace the cover, inserting the bottom tab first, then snap in the top. If the mirror is still not tight enough, go to Method 2.

Method 2: Carefully pry off the rim bezel of the mirror, starting in the middle of the seam on the bottom, working your way around the edge. The bezel will pop off when you get past one of the ends. I used a pair of heavy guitar picks to keep the latches from snapping back into place as I progressed. Once the bezel falls off, the mirror assembly will dangle from the power cord. The Phillips tension screw is in the center bottom of the case; tighten it to suit, and make certain that the four bracket mounting screws around it are all tight, too. Then place the mirror assembly back in place and snap the bezel back into place, starting at the top.

Side mirror is coming loose from where the mount connects to the body. The top section is what is loose. Nothing hit this so I am not sure why its loose or how to tighten it. Thanks

You'll probably have to remove the sail panel (the triangular trim piece on the inside of the door which is positioned where the mirror base is). When you do that, you'll see that the mirror itself usually has studs that come through from the outside, and there are nuts on the inside that tighten down onto them to hold the mirror. Make sure that all the nuts are tight. If not, tighten them down.

What may have happened though, is that someone could've hit the mirror when you weren't around, and damaged something. It wouldn't always immediately sag or fall off, so it could've happened awhile back and you're just now seeing it.

Chances are though that the mounting nut/stud is the issue, and you'll be able to fix it this way.
