Yamaha xj650 maxim won't start, but left blinker won't stop flashing when I push the start/stop button actually ground a bare wire, don't have a button/switch yet, need to replace the throttle body.

Hi, Sarah before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid or starter circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

What's the ratings for ignition coil on a 1981 Yamaha XJ650 mine reads 2.5 is that a good coil or a bad coil

Measuring the resistance (I assume that is what you have done) will not give you a complete picture on how good the coil is. 2.5 ohms is the correct resistance for an XJ650, but it may have a shorted turn which will stop it working properly and will still read close to the correct resistance. The best way is to use a coil tester. if you don't have one, then try turning the bike over on then starter motor with a spark plug connected to the coil but out of the bike and resting on an earth. You should expect to see a healthy spark. Otherwise, take the coil to an auto electrician to be tested.

What causes my outboard motor to keep cutting out on one cylinder?

When a motor temporarily drops a cylinder and it comes back, the problem is usually electrical. If the plugs are known to be good, checking all of the wiring connections for tightness and corrosion would be next. This includes the wire connector inside the spark plug boot. If it has points style ignition, a bad condenser or dirty/misadjusted points will cause a bad miss to. Older motors from the 50's and 60's can have the coils insulation crack and leak high voltage to the mag plate or fail completely. Testing the secondary windings with an ohm meter will let you know if the coil is still useable or not. Here's a cracked and leaking coil on a running 70's Evinrude 20 horse and some bad coils under a flywheel.2f2d6d32-85d1-4e6c-a4e1-735ca8c92ad7.jpg

Hi, I have a 2004 Suzuki Aerio Sedan, the Tail light do not come on. I have checked the bulbs and they are good. I checked fuses and not is burned. Is there a relay that controls tail lights?

I don't know if there is a relay but the head light switch controls the taillights You can check the auto parts store and see if they have a listing for a taillight relay otherwise You will need an electrical tester or test light. First connect one side of the test light or meter to a good ground.Take the probe of the test light and test the fuse on both sides and make sure it lights. If it is good on both sides try testing for voltage at the tail light sockets With the light switch turned on, If you have voltage at the socket you could be missing the ground to the tail light bulbs.or you could have bad bulbs or corroded sockets. An other possibility if no voltage is at the sockets you could have a defective headlight switch.Beyond that you will need a factory service manual with wiring diagrams or a detailed manual such as Mitchel's or one from Alldata

No spark from coils. All fuses good and all voltage and wiring are good.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
6. Faulty ignition coil or electronic control module or CDI box.
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset
