No problem pal....I recommend Castrol Syntec Actevo 10-40wt for your little thumper...you'll get this at a cycle parts store not K-Mart. Buy 2 qts while your there as it will probably hold a little over 1 qt. Make sure bike is level on level ground when you check your dipstick and don't overfill OK ?...i have owned 48 motorcycles and never had a mechanical failure with Castrol....Good Luck to you friend....Tim

1982 xt 550, overheat issues, pushing out oil, also after a while running bike turns on, comes to life, even tryed new control boxes, same thing

Not sure what to make of the oil issue. The overheating can be caused by running too lean or a vacuum leak at the manifold or improper timing.

Need a WIRING XT550J.PDF SCHEMATIC Circuit

Hi
Have a XT 400 1982 year model. Had problems with ignition as well as carburator on this. Used a wiring diagram from a XT 600 (are more or less the same on these models (400, 550 and 600) Bike is running like never before now. Have the complete manual (for the XT 600)that can be mailed over.

XT 125 oil problem

Hi Pete!
I used to have a Xt 500 and loved it to bits, the oil filler then and presumably now is on the right side of the engine by the kick start (If you have one) it is a large black plastic screw topped item which will unscrew (Anticlockwise) to reveal a long shaft (Dip stick).
There you go!
Remember to keep bike upright to check level?
