Question about 2001 Harley Davidson XL Sportster 883 Hugger

Changing front brake pads

I'm fairly mechanically inclined. I'm wondering if I can change the front brake pads on my 2001 883 hugger? If so, where would I find the detailed explanation? In advance, thanks for your time.

Doing the brakes is about as easy as it gets. I do recommend spending the $60.00 for a manuel if you are going to work on the bike a lot. You can also check with your local library, I used to check one out until I bought my own.

If the Mechanic on the job could not find out after working on it ? Brake Pads sound easy to fit , but they are not, if they dont go in 100% flat , problems. Another big problem, use GENUINE PADS, as fitted by manufacture, Afer market , unknown Pads not good.

Brakes problem

When worn out brake pads have a piece of metal contacting the discs to indicate that you need to change your brakes.

Just look for worn pads, I bet you'll need to change your front brakes .

Change front rotors on 97aurora

I hope you mean change front rotors, AND change front disc pads...This front brake set-up is fairly easy for a novice to do also. Why mention rotors? Are you experiencing a vaibration when applying the brake pedal? Yes, this is a sign of warped, worn out rotors...also inspect caliper piston movement, and top off brake reservoir after parts change. The caliper hold down bracket must be removed to change the rotors...2 bolts with good breaker bar, maybe 16 17mm socket and 13mm socket for removal of the caliper (2) bolts...lubricate and clean all parts and slide pins...be sure to thoroughly spray new rotors with brake parts cleaner before installing...this removes the packing oil from the rotors...(will ruin new brake pads and smell) Hope this helps.

Driver side brake locking up

Hi, I don't know when you last had your brakes done, but it sounds as though your left front caliper is sticking when you apply your brakes. More then likely if it locks up the piston in the caliper is worn or damaged to the point of needing to replace it. If this is something you can do, if you are mechanically inclined, its not that difficult of a job. I would also check the rotors to see if they are scored to metal to metal, and if so, take them to Kragen auto to be turned. But change the caliper on the front left along with new pads and change the pads on the right front also. Check the rotor for wear also. This will take care of it locking up, this can be dangerous, I wouldn't put it off for long. This is your problem though, for sure! Please keep me in mind when its time to rate me, this will be kind of you. I wish you the best on this and keep me posted on the outcome.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

check the rotor to be sure it is flat (not warped).and that the brake caliper has free movement when released.

I am replacing the brake pads on my Kia 2007 Sedona; front and back is neeeded or just front? Took it to Kia dealer and mechanic showed me pads where very thin and needed replacement; all for $400! Heck...

If your rotors are good and fairly smooth, then a decent ceramic pad will work well. Just be aware that ceramic pads will require a slightly greater paddle pressure. They will last longer, dust up a bit less and will perform MUCH greater in stop and go traffic...

I suspect that 25 dollars per axle is a typical cost for good quality disc brake pads.

Is there any thing special that I should know in order to change rotors and pads on a 2007 Saturn Vue

it is typical design for these brakes and pads and rotors if you have the correct tools which is usually just a good socket set and some allen keys and some various pliers and wrenches you should do just fine if you are mechanically inclined, one thing i am wondering is why you are replacing the rotors? are they turned twice already? if they have never been turned and are not thoroughly warped then you can just have them turned fairly inexpensivley at a local shop
