This is the typical long term storage problem buddy. Remove gas tank and clean it out real good. Any filters between tank and carb replace. Change oil. Buy a new battery. Carb will need to be cleaned so if your not up for it find a trusted mechanic. Follow my guidlines completely and you should be riding in no time !...Good Luck to you my friend....Tim

My 83 sp250 was running fine, then three hours later wont start. what are the possible causes

Hi, Horseguy102/Erin and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Fuel line to the carburetor or throttle body pinched or kinked.
8. Carburetor float stuck.
9. Fuel injectors clogged.
10. Severely discharged or damaged battery you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and CDI box.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
13. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty MAP, CKP, O2, TPS, sensors.
14. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
15. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
16. Faulty CDI box.
17. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
18. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
19. Check for engine trouble codes.

Motorcycle wont start

Is the gas new?If it isn't,there was a report about how ethanol is causing problems in gas lines and motors. It erodes the non metal parts in the fuel system. You can try cyphoning the gas,add octane boost, then add some gas.My mechanic recommended it because I was at wits end and out of ideas so I called.A couple gallons is fine because if it doesn't work, you won't waste much money.I had the same problem, same time sitting on a scooter and it didn't work. It's all I got for now.Isn't it WONDERFUL that we're going green?
Good luck bro!

Hi i have a 93 dr250 motorbike and i am lossing

Hi !
Just get new washer rings for the 2 bolts.
They have hardened and craked with wear and tear and heat. In high heat and pressure the oil becomes very thin and leaks through the cracked washers.
Your problem will be solved.

My sons Dr250 Suzuki's gear leaver shaft has slipped into the motor and has no gears, I can pull it back out to its original position to select gears, the question is what is supposed to stop the shaft...

I believe that on these models the retaining clip is internal, and the shaft seats into a bearing at the other end. If the bearing has come apart it will allow the shaft to slide in and out also. Drain and check the fluid for metal or excessive shavings. If it were external, you should be able to see the groove for the clip with the shaft pulled out. Most likely, you're going to have to pull the engine, and split the cases to get to the tranny in order to fix the problem. Pain in the arse, I know, I've done it a few times on my dirt bikes. Assuming this is the DR250 enduro style dirt bike I'm thinking it is. If I'm wrong on the bike type let me know, and I'll see if I can get more info, cause I believe Suzuki also made a DR 250 S in the late 80's or early 90's, which was a sport bike.
