Question about 2000 Triumph Legend TT

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Triumph Legend that seems like it's starving for fuel. I've had the carbs cleaned (for $300!) and it still dies while idling, no matter what the idle speed. Runs rough, coughs and sputters. I don't know if I trust my local dealer, but it's the only one around. Can it be the fuel filter? Any suggestions?

Thanks for trying, but my bike doesn't have a fuel pump. However, my uncle and step-dad tore into into it, and we came up with a very dirty air filter. Had to take the carbs off to get to it though. Wonder why the tech at the dealer didn't change it when he cleaned the carbs?

Mine is doing the same thing, I found that some vermin was building a nest in the air box over the winter. If I could just get the last screw out of the air box I could take it apart without removing the carbs. any suggestions on removing the last screw that is right in the middle of the air box on the bottom directly in front of part of the frame without removing the carbs?

Fuel starved, carb should have an idle adjustment which sounds like it is fine. Look for the second adjustment

don't have enough information, can be a number of things. believe this bike has carbs, not injectors, so it could be something there. it starts and runs but dies when you throttle up so it does sound like it could be fuel starved

Triumph 1955 engine stops when choke is open

The carb is either out of adjust (too lean) or you have clogged jets and are in need of a thorough carb cleaning. The engine is starving for fuel.

My bike will idel but won t rev. just cuts off

Starving for fuel.
Make sure carbs are getting fuel.
Make sure fuel filters are clean,
make sure fuel pump is working.

If carbs are getting fuel but wont rev, you need to clean your carbs because your jets are clogged

possibly, most likely it is either the pilot jet is plugged, requiring carb removal and cleaning, or try bypassing the throttle cutout switch, its two bullet connectors coming off the carb, just unplug them and plug the engine side together, just be sure to flip your throttle before starting ensure it is not frozen wide open, or its just an idle screw adjustment,it's a knob on the carb.

if your model has a amel mark 2 the stand main jet is #200 needle jet #106 pilot jet #20 starter jet #35 the main jet doesn't come into it at take off unless you are pulling 5000 revs or more. i would try raising the needles and checking the pilot jet also try taking of with choke on this will let you know if it is starving for fuel. try the choke one first before pulling the carbs down.

If it is backfiring on deacceleration you have a fuel mixture problem and need to "sync" the carbs.
Sync Pro carb tuner works well. This is a precise four channel vacuum indicator designed specifically for intake synchronization of engines with multiple carburetors or throttle bodies.
Also, if you have not done so, check your plug wires for defects and resistors, if your wires have them.
Good luck, hope this helps.
