Could I make a kill switch for my 99 r1 that would turn off and turn on all the lights and power? Currently my bikes lights and everything will stay on even with the key off and out the ignition. The bike itself will cut off but the lights stay on.

Easily If you could wire it up to a relay the relay can turn off several things and turn on several things if you solder to the correct terminals. Is this for anti theft or is it in case you fall off the bike? :)

It's to keep me from having to disconnect the battery terminal when I'm done riding. Like I said I turn the bike off and take the key out of the ignition but the lights will stay on

You can use a 1/4 inch headphone jack as the switch.

You can use a solenoid instead of a relay

Either that or the relay that connects the positive lead to the starter is shorted. If you can get into the relay, you may be able to hold the contacts open if the switch is shorted or the contacts may have welded themselves together

SOURCE: bike will not turn over lights work fine kick

Check the kick stand switch first. They are always in a location that is ideal for collecting dirt etc. Put the stand down and press the switch a few times by hand and then try starting again. Maybe even a bit of WD40 on it if it's anything like mine after being riden through the winter.
If this doesn't work, the kill switch is then worth investigating.

Want to bypass tip over sensor

Hi, Anonymous it's not your tip over sensor if your bike starts you may have a faulty kickstand safety switch for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Hi, Tom if your headlight is not working, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
9. Weak charging alternator/generator.
10. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

I think your bike is being powered through the starter solenoid by a defective starter button. The starter button is on the right switch assembly and normally turns the headlight off when depressed halfway. A wire may be plugged in wrong in the headlight (Two wires are crossed). Take apart the right switch assembly and check for shorts and power from the solenoid ). Check the main wire harness to the handle bar switch for crossed wires (they are color coded).

HELP ME hi i have a 99 r1 and the bike is runing ok but for no reason it will cut out. the lights are all on. but if i turn the bike off and on it will run i think sumthink is cuting the spark but i dont...

the only three things that will cut off a perfectly good running bike are as follows #1 kill switch #2 kickstand switch and #3 tilt/bank angle switch. since im almost positive you didnt hit the kill switch will let that one go and if you didnt hit a large speed bump or pot hole you probably didnt upset the position of the kickstand switch but check its security anyway, bolts have a way of vibrating loose like you dont know. So by logic the only thing left is the tilt switch, which i hear a lot of complaints from other rides especially stunters, they disable their switches because of all the tricks they do would constantly kill their bikes. Im not sure where it's located, it might be under your speedo, or under the seat near the rear shock. but i heard the way you reset it is buy taking key out and restart it. Did this help.i hope.

Bike won't start

the first i always check when a bike doing what your talking about is safety switchs side stand, clutch and neutral. If any are not working the bike won't start, lets say as example bike is in gear side stand is up clutch pulled in but the but won't start, if the clutch switch is broke or worn the the bike thinks that you want to start it in gear without the clutch and it won't even turn over. The other thing to check is you kill switch, sometimes you'll get dirt and it can hold moisture, cause rust

2006 yammaha r1 won't start

check the battery voltage and connections.check the starter solenoid.see if it has power to it on small wire going to it, when you press start button.(this is the box w/ 2 posts & 2 cables attatched to it)use a 12 volt test light to do this. check cable tightness.SHORTCUT-turn key on,place bike in neutral, take large screwdriver & make contact across both posts of solenoid.bike should crank if everything else is ok. if you tested for power to the solenoid and it was present, but bike only starts w/ screwdriver trick-solenoid is bad.

It sounds like you have a poor ground connection. You'll have to disassemble and check the wiring harness for broken wires, start up near the ignition switch or around anything that is no longer stock on the bike (like aftermarket turn signals, fuel nanny, power commander, etc.)
