Check the fuel filter or for pinched fuel lines.

NISSAN RAN OUT OF GAS I REFILLED AND IT WILL NOT START

First, did you try pumping the gas pedal and starting the car? It may take a few minutes since the fuel lines need to be pressurized again.
If this still doesn't work, your fuel pump may have died. Fuel in the tank helps to keep the fuel pump from overheating and failing. Have your fuel pressure tested and check/replace the fuel pump. Have you tried gas or starter fluid in air induction system? you only need a couple teaspoons of gas or short squirt of starting fluid. When you "crank engine' it will start up and give a "short burst of power", as the available fuel is burned! If this happens, you definitely have a fuel problem, most likely leading to the fuel pump.

How many fuel filters do my car have?were is my fuel pump located?how do i test that my fuel pump is working?

there is one fuel filter on your car and the fuel pump in in the gas tank you can check it by turning the key over to start a few times and asoon as you stop turning the engine over you should be able to hear a humming noice from the gas tank under the car... if you do not hear this you probbley need a fuel pump installed this can be done at home but is not easy. to check if the engine is to blaim try spraying some starter fluid in the intake " where the engine sucks in the air when its running " and try to start it, if it trys to start the fuel pump would be my next course of action

The engine cranks but it won't start

spray starter fluid in the intake and try to start .if engine hits like it is trying to start then ing is good. check the gas if you have gas then it might be a bad fuel pump.

I have 70's 9.8 mercury motor it start with starter fluid

You can seize the bearings real quick with starting fluid. You found out it has spark. Now you need to find out if you are getting fuel. Some of the gas tanks have a strainer and you need to pull the gas gauge from the tank and check the bottom of the tube for the strainer. If it is clean follow the fuel line up into the motor to the fuel pump. There may be a strainer inside the pump. If this is clean reassemble everything. With the gas line disconnected from the motor pump the bulb. Use a ballpoint pin on the checkball and see if gas will flow. Reconnect everything and pump the bulb, it should remain filled and hard. Now choke the motor and pull the starter. It should try to start. Aside from fouled plugs and bad gas if it hits with starting fluid it should run.
