1983honda vf750s v45 sabra: one cylinder & tact die out. can happen at anytime, can last for a few seconds or long time.

    Can you please elaborate further as to what actually is happenning to the bike's engine?

    Do you mean to say tht one cylinder dies soon after you start the bike, or does it misfire?

There are two ignition mods under the seat one of them is bad they are 140 bucks at dealer

With the indulgence of Knight 007...

The tact dying is significant. It indicates that the pulse drive from the spark unit (CDI) towards the ignition coil has gone missing. The intermittent problem almost always points to a loose connection from the CDI connector to the terminal of the coil for the cylinder that misses. This would be the yellow wire of CDI to yellow wire of harness. This should not be mistaken for the yellow wire from the other CDI that connects to a blue wire that goes to the other ignition coil and fuel cutoff relay.

In some instances, the intermittent loose connection could be heat related and internal to the spark unit. A way to verify is to interchange the spark units where in the expected problem would be that the tach would no longer fail but the bike would suffer with fuel starvation.

Perhaps a wiring diagram would be of additional help.

Anytime u feel surging and the engine dies out , %99 percent of the time it's a carburetor issue. Service the carb and go from there.

82 honda v45 magna ignition problems


Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

1993 ford wont start


fuel pump is gone for sure. it ran until the fuel in engine burnt then died. poor 1/4 cup gas into intake. if it starts and dies a couple seconds later then 100% fuel pump.

Dear Sputtering Wonder........This might be a stab in the dark over the internet....but I've came across this problem a few times before....this could be a defctive fuel pressure regulator....located on top of the motor on the fuel rail. What happens is age ruptures the rubber diaphragm in the regulator and fuel just starts loading up into the cylinders.......resulting in a horribly idle and undesirable operation....the way to check this regulator is to pull the vacuum line off of it and see if fuel is spraying or you can smell it. If you can see it spraying out of the vacuum line attachment or can smell fuel....then it's time to replaced that regulator....HOPE I COULD HELP!!!

I have a 1982 honda v45 sabre VF750S. I need the vaccum diagram for the carbs.I don't know how my carburetors are set up.I'm not sure about the vaccum line routing. Thank You,Bronx James


A service manual is a valuable tool with an aging bike. I suggest the dealer/mfr. or Clymer books. In the meantime, go to the library reference section...646 stacks should have what you need.

Sounds like valve timing is off,check your tappet settings,allways gets worse when hot.

Regarding the shut down, when was the last time you changed the timing belt?? Did you know that the twin cam 1.5 lirte motor needs a new belt every 50,000 miles or 80,000 kms.
If the belt has failed it may still be in tact but with the cogs ripped off.
Your valves have collided with at least one piston but it is good you were only idling at the time.
The motor may be worth fixing. I just fixed mine myself. I had to lift the engine after removing the axles. I removed the old timing belt and removed and rebuilt the cylinder head(big job). Two exhaust valves were boken right off and lying inside one cylinder.
Most likely your timing belt failed as well.

I have a 1982 V45 HONDA SABRE VF750S motorcycle. It has a severe front end shake if you remove one hand from the handle bars. What could be the cause of this shaking?


I had the same problem with mine last year. I put a new tire on it and had it balanced. The vibration went away. I would at least have your tire balanced.
